Guys,

I noticed that the frame lines on my new M sometimes dim down rather than staying very bright...................is it a battery saving function or something else?

The camera is designed to dim the frame lines when the ambient light dims. It is to help your view and focusing. It is great also that they gave a choice of red lines.

FWIW, that's the way earlier Leica rangefinders have worked because the frame lines are illuminated by ambient light. :)

When you point your Leica M camera toward a light source which is very bright, the frame lines light up.Point the to a darker source they diminish. Logic to me, because in very light areas you should see the frame lines with less contrast.

I made an experiment with the frame lines of my MP next to the M. You still can see the frame lines of the MP very well in the same circumstances. Only difference is, that the frame lines of the M appear to be brighter and thicker than the MP lines. You can see the moment you compare the two how fragile the MP lines look. But fragile can also be quite nice...

The lines of the Leica M work fine, they only are a little bit bulkier. Just as the camera in comparison with the MP...
