Today is a day of double firmware fun for those of us who use the Jobo Gigavu Pro Evolution. There's new firmware that among a number of other improvements allows for the decoding of M8 RAW files.

Here's the link: http://www.jobo.com/jobo_service/digital/files/giga_vu_pro_e/index.html

Enjoy,

Hans

Hans,

unfortunately even with the update the GVPE still shows vertical DNG the wrong way round.

I still get the small previews and that loupe thing doesn't work on the M8 files. It works fine with my Canon files though...

edit: i should ghave switched to: 'use raw data' instead of the embedded jpeg. It works. A little slooooow, but it works.

Hans,

I get the small previews, too, but I can at least zoom in. In that case, the GVPE will decode the DNG (hasn't done before). As soon as I go back to the zoom window size mode (hope, the translation is correct, in German it's "Zoom Fenstergröße"), I only see the small preview.

Having zoomed in, the loupe does work for me.

I talked to both Epson & Jobo at PMA.

Epson said that they have zero plans to support the M8 with their viewers. The quote was that it is just not a big enough market for them to address.

I spent quite a bit of time with Jobo. They took copied an SD card full of images from M8 so that they could use these files to set-up the evolution to work with the M8. The promise was that they would make it functional with the M8. Sounds like they lived up to their promise.

Best,

Ray

As a PS., I also talked at length to the makers of Expodisc about the M8 at PMA.

I showed them the issues with Auto WB and how badly a solution to manually setting WB quickly was. They wanted a demo on how to manually set the WB from an exposure on the M8, which I showed them. We then played with several of their larger sizes that covered the lens and we saw the improvement.

The end result was that they said would produce a 46 mm size for sure and probably a 39 mm size for us M8 users.

More good news.
