Guest Gilgamesh Posted September 12, 2013 Share #1 Posted September 12, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) This may be entirely coincidental but ever since buying and using the M alongside my D800e, several of my 64GB ScanDisk Ultra 30mb/s cards have decided that I can't see or access the images. "Get info" on the Mac tells me there card is full (and yes, I can't add images so they are indeed full), part full, and yet, I can neither see nor access the images. Any ideas? Thanks
Advertisement Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Hi Guest Gilgamesh, Take a look here SD card issues.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted September 12, 2013 Share #2 Posted September 12, 2013 Are you switching cards between cameras?
Guest Gilgamesh Posted September 12, 2013 Share #3 Posted September 12, 2013 Yes, and on some cards this is simply not an issue. I can not review any images with the cards in camera, at the end of a week when the card is full but can do so as I take the pictures though. The Nikon takes NEF, the Leica DNG's. jaapv Posted September 12, 2013 Share #4 Posted September 12, 2013 A recipe for trouble. At least format them in the camera that you are going to use them in.
Guest Gilgamesh Posted September 13, 2013 Share #5 Posted September 13, 2013 I wonder, is there any way to retrieve these images? I have tried to copy / paste but there is nothing to copy / paste, no images, nothing but clearly the card is full. Where I wonder can I get more information about this I wonder? jaapv Posted September 13, 2013 Share #6 Posted September 13, 2013 Yes, both Sandisk and Lexar offer recovery software. For Sandisk that is Rescue Pro. There are plenty of other programs out there as well: http://www.lmgtfy.com/?q=sd+card+recovery+software Even a formatted card can be recovered. I thought SanDisk cards of that size came with recovery software, good for a year.
Guest Gilgamesh Posted September 17, 2013 Share #8 Posted September 17, 2013 OK This is getting seriously weird. I have bought the Filerecovery 2013 from File and Data Recovery Software and Services - LC Technology International Inc., Nottingham, UK, as recommended and it works a treat. The bizarre thing is, I have already offloaded most every image already, so the card / Mac or something is back-writing (?) the data. "Ok, something’s gone wrong with this card, odd there are a few files showing that suggests writing back after a delete/format/ corruption, but it is a good sign it still mounts at the right size" later.... "it is a corrupted card and a ‘lost’ file system, so basically all the data disappears but is still on the card (even though it looks empty), thankfully it is a scenario software can help with. Some corrupted cards don’t even show as a drive, in bad cases like that we need to try other things in the lab." Then top this: I see 1795 DNG's and 406 NEF files. Plus some 1824 tiny jpegs. I NEVER SHOOT JPEG! These are duplicates of the DNG's + others, not too sure. Any ideas?
Gerard Posted September 17, 2013 Share #9 Posted September 17, 2013 The jpeg files sound like thumbnail files. Seriously... Don't risk swapping cameras without formatting prior to use. And in advance of critical work/jobs; do a full overwrite.
