idealys Posted September 11, 2013 Share #1 Posted September 11, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have an Leica M 240 and have been experiencing some very frustrating failures by the camera. Very randomly the camera freezes the LV and EV go “rainbow” colors (as on picture attached) and there is nothing I can do. Even if I try switching the camera off it doesn’t and remains in this state. The only solution I have found Is to remove the battery for some time. If a remove the battery and put it back in immediately the camera restarts and the freezes again. This has happens at least 5 times now and happened with the three leica lens I have (sumarit elmarit and sumlix). I have tried different SD cards (sand disk extreme pro 64 and Sandisk HDSC 32) and still face this issue. Anyone face d the same issu? any solution? Welcome, dear visitor! jaapv Posted September 11, 2013 Share #2 Posted September 11, 2013 Better to contact Leica for this, it is not "normal"
Carduelis Posted September 11, 2013 Share #3 Posted September 11, 2013 I have recently acquired an M240 and faced similar issues with the camera locking up seemingly when using LV and the EVF. However it happened about 10% of the time whilst using it in anger on a recent holiday and fortunately it resolved itself after turning the camera on and off and reinstalling the battery. I did experience luminescent green effects twice through the EVF which quickly disappeared when I replayed a previous image and went back to shooting mode. It seems as though you have more seriously related issues which may need to be fixed by Leica. It is a shame these issues prevail because I really like using the camera and I have been very pleased with the images it has produced once imported into Lightroom. I will monitor the future performance of my camera and hope that these problematic issues improve.
Telfs Posted September 11, 2013 Share #4 Posted September 11, 2013 You could try reinstalling the firmware as an easy, zero cost attempt to fix it.
k-hawinkler Posted September 11, 2013 Share #5 Posted September 11, 2013 I would send the camera to Leica to have them repair it. Good luck.

brooksfletcher Posted September 12, 2013 Share #7 Posted September 12, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Tried looking as well, all I found was the Firmware Update 1.1.0.2, which obviously won't suffice. I curious on how easy it is to find that, considerign Leica probably doesn't want end users dabbling with such technicalities, hence the warranty. You may have to go int to depths of the various Leica communities and go down some dark alleys to find the M firmware in it's entirety. Good luck
StephenPatterson Posted September 12, 2013 Share #8 Posted September 12, 2013 Tried looking as well, all I found was the Firmware Update 1.1.0.2, which obviously won't suffice... This is what you want. Leica Camera AG - Downloads
idealys Posted September 12, 2013 Author Share #9 Posted September 12, 2013 Thx, I have tried the firmware update even if my m came with .02 version. guess it wont hurt. let's see if the problem persist also lets see what Leica support says when they reply as they are not the most responsive support service out there
StephenPatterson Posted September 12, 2013 Share #10 Posted September 12, 2013 Good luck, and from my experience Leica has been very responsive (Leica AG in Solms, not the Hong Kong distributor).

idealys Posted September 13, 2013 Author Share #12 Posted September 13, 2013 Yes I was referring to full firmware but the update is all I can find
jaapv Posted September 13, 2013 Share #13 Posted September 13, 2013 The update is the full firmware. It will overwrite the existing firmware in your camera. If the camera needs a complete reset it must be done by Customer Service.
saxman777 Posted September 13, 2013 Share #14 Posted September 13, 2013 Hi. I am having a similar (don't know if it's the same) problem. I am charging the batteries and will be doing a full FW update later. In the mean time, I am sourcing informations such as this. Here is a sample of an actual JPeg from the M240. saxman777 Posted September 13, 2013 Share #15 Posted September 13, 2013 Just to update. The FW update didn't solve the problem. I guess it will be going back to Solms :'( Sent from my iPad using Forum Runner
idealys Posted September 15, 2013 Author Share #16 Posted September 15, 2013 In my case when the problem happens the camerra dosen't save pictures once the "crash" happens. but the best fix i found is to charge the battery to full, even if it only be barely discharged. that sort of solves it for a while
tobey bilek Posted September 15, 2013 Share #17 Posted September 15, 2013 I suggest it is a battery problem. Try putting in the spare one which you need anyway. In any case, send it in with the slightly discharged one so the issue is immediately apparent
