satya Posted September 10, 2013 Share #1 Posted September 10, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Firstly please excuse this post if I'm asking a totally idiotic question. The M8 I got from the UK has the warranty card unused and there is no dealer stamp. The camera was bought from a camera store that bought it from someone else. There is an invoice from the previous owner I imagine. The camera is in mint shape- with around 16000 shutter actuations. So does this mean that the camera was never registered? So is the warranty from first registration? And I do it now? But then there is no dealer stamp. I know most places have no warranty now- but I thought the UK does. Even if no warranty I would like to register the camera. Is there another way to check my camera status? Find out if its been around? I imagine its had probably one owner. My last question is would the magnifier work ok with a 50mm? Or should I just get used to do the focusing box? Thanks and my apologies if this post will cause some people to do the face palm or eyeball roll. Newbie with the M8 and want everything in good condition for her. Advertisement Posted September 10, 2013 Posted September 10, 2013 Hi satya, Take a look here Question on Passport- M8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Erik Gunst Lund Posted September 10, 2013 Share #2 Posted September 10, 2013 Just ask Leica Customer Service, they register everything on the serial number.
wattsy Posted September 10, 2013 Share #3 Posted September 10, 2013 Warranty (both Passport and Solms worldwide) starts from the original purchase date not from the date of registration. You will be able to register your M8 with Leica (provided it isn't already registered to someone else) but this will not provide any warranty coverage if the camera was originally purchased new more than two years ago. otto.f Posted September 10, 2013 Share #4 Posted September 10, 2013 Most warranty cards, if not all, are not filled in, that's common practice. I don't know what Ian Watts suggests but it is not definite that Leica won't do anything under warranty after two years. In my experience Leica is since 2010 much more customer / repair / service friendly than before. So call them and read between the lines.
satya Posted September 10, 2013 Author Share #5 Posted September 10, 2013 Thanks for the info guys. I tried to register but it said its not possible and to contact Leica- so sent an email. Guess the camera is still registered to another owner? Hope no shady past or runaway / kidnapped camera I have now. Had sudden thoughts that I got a hot camera! The serial number is:- 3332364 Is there a site where I could look to see the year of manufacture? Seen info on analog M cameras. Will keep looking. Ok- got info from one site. My series was made in 2008. So it's just 5 years old.
pgk Posted September 10, 2013 Share #6 Posted September 10, 2013 Go to: https://owners.leica-camera.com/en/login create a login and you will be able to log that you own the camera with Leica at least. Unless someone has already done so and hasn't amended their ownership of it that is.
satya Posted September 10, 2013 Author Share #7 Posted September 10, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Paul, Yes I tried that and I got a message saying I can't register and to contact leica. So emailed them all the info. I was reading about no more LCD replacements and some parts for the M8! well mine was made a year or so before they stopped it for the M9- so here's hoping that no sensor bugs or failures. The leica battery gave away after like 30 shots today. Guess I need a new battery.
