It's September 5th. I think we were assured that M Type 240 grips would arrive by now and be ready to ship out to those who want them. I have been ready for mine since I got my M in late May. Can anyone tell me where I can find basic M grip, #14496? Have cash in hand, ready to spend.

I have been waiting for Handgrip & R lens adapter since late Feb '13 after getting my M. I just cannot rationalise Leica's product development strategy?

On the flip side - they are a small company in a niche space that almost went broke a few years back. Now they can't keep up with demand. This is good news for all of us - just need to be patient. My M9 still works, and I bet you can still grip your M in your hands!

I have just spoken with my authorized leica dealer, he told me "don't wait on it, if you really need a grip, get the RRS". I don't want the RRS. It's too bulky and honestly it doesn't look right on an M (IMHO). They even took the item off their website and the estimated price, so I can't even see it listed anymore here.

So yeah..... I think next year is your best bet.

I still honestly, can't figure it out. The non-technical grip, is just a piece of steel, milled and machined, and covered with leatherette texture grip. That's it. I'm not saying it's easy to do in a flick of a finger, but come'on, for a company like Leica - how hard is it to sub out and make one? I mean - they can just ask the ones they usually order from when they were making the M8/9 grips.

I could take all the reasoning for the technical one, maybe the wifi isn't working well, maybe the connecter needs to be adjusted, maybe this and that. But the "vanilla" one? Wow. I'm baffled.

This one is a bit different since it has a GPS which I understand is the same one the S Models have.

I got the RRS grip and if I did not shoot tripod often I would not have it. The grip itself is a bit too large and nearly obstructs the #3 button on the front and as such makes it even more difficult to activate that button.

A few weeks ago in Solms at CS they put the Leica MF grip on an M for me to handle again since Photokina. And the first thing I noticed was how nice the grip curve stopped and then went in more at a straight angle back to the body thereby giving more finger room for activating the #3 button. The RRS grip is too curved and bulky in this area where there is not much room for fingers.

Since I had my RRS grip along it was easy to compare visually and also while holding each of them with an M attached. One could get a good feel of how each one felt in the hand with camera.

The Leica grip won hands down. (OK too hard to resist)

They (Solms) would not say. However, the Leica Munich store said they were told September was it, no later. So I said right, heard that before and they replied that their factory contact seemed to draw a line at September.

Then again, we've heard about drawing a line recently.

As for the adapter, at least Novoflex is now delivering theirs with 6 bit coding. No need for the Leica one now.

.... though for myself I'm waiting for the Leica version, because I particularly want the associated tripod support. (But if this is something you don't need .... )

I doubt that we will see the grip before the new firmware is out. May also apply to the R-M adapter.

That must be cause of the delay ... firmware

Whether you are shooting with a grip or without, which type of grip, the size of the finger loops etc must of course be recorded in EXIF. And the current firmware is not ready for it. Now we now why they delayed these accessories ...

Errr....many of us are waiting for the ability to shoot tethered. Also, although there seem to be a lot of nay-sayers, I think the GPS function will be remarkably useful.

I hear it's very hard to write software to coincide with your grip size.

Who wants a finger loop without the grip to screw it onto.

It's like I already have the AC adapter for the MF grip, but no grip. Lots of good that ac adapter does!

Can't remember if I mentioned the way I plan for tripod QR use once we DO get the MF grip.

Since the MF grip tripod hole is way offset to the right (looking at it from the back of the camera), I am going to use the RRS MC-L L plate which has 4 adjustable spaces for mounting it. Once that is in place then one can use the thumb screw on the non-existent MF grip to get to changing batteries and SD cards without having to remove the QR plate from the grip. PLUS I am hoping that the L bracket will end up on the right side of the M, thereby allowing for easier RF focusing up at the top of the M when shooting portrait.
