jrc Posted April 11, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted April 11, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) This is a branch off the "M8 oddity -- writes but nothing is there" thread." Â Somebody mentions occasional trouble with Macs. I'm on a Mac, and sometimes I have trouble downloading my card through a reader (I always reformat in the camera.) The odd thing about it is, I can usually get the Mac to recognize the card eventually, but it involves changing card readers -- I have three of them, two dedicated SD and one multi-card, and I've learned that if I keep switching them around, sooner or later the card will be recognized. I've had this trouble with SanDisk cards but not with Lexar, and with more than one camera. (And to be fair, I've got several SanDisk cards and only a couple of Lexar.) Â In any case, I do sometimes have trouble getting an iMac to recognize a card, and I used to have trouble getting a G4 laptop to recognize. I haven't had trouble with the MacBook Pro, but I haven't used that much yet. Â JC

It runs in the background of iPhoto once run once and will help you with consistent downloading from cards. Capture one can be difficult to get to fire up the first time on a card from an M8 but subsequently it finds the DNG images first time every time - seems to have a learning function. andybarton Posted April 11, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted April 11, 2007 No problem here. Â Provided you have set Image Capture to "Do nothing" when a card is inserted, the card will mount on the desktop just like an external drive. Â You can then import into any other program from there, or if you prefer, have this set to launch in Image Capture itself. Â iPhoto need never launch if you don't want it to. Both iPhoto and Image Capture are entirely optional (neither get much use on my Mac, it must be said) Â What's your preferred workflow?
