qvsm Posted September 24, 2013 Share #61 Posted September 24, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Despite having 8gb memory plus heaps of storage, C1 often struggles, causing fuzzy screens, freezing etc. Even with all other apps closed. LR and PS can happily run together all day. But generally speaking, the output is better, I just think it's a dog to use.
Advertisement Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 Hi qvsm, Take a look here Lightroom disaster/workflow. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted September 24, 2013 Share #62 Posted September 24, 2013 That depends whether you have OpenCL enabled. On some computers it makes the program blindingly fast, on others it causes freezes. It depends on the Video card you are using. Experiment with using it or not, you can set it in the preferences.
CaptZoom Posted September 24, 2013 Share #63 Posted September 24, 2013 Is editing in C1 nondestructive? And does it integrate asset management? If so, how well?
jaapv Posted September 24, 2013 Share #64 Posted September 24, 2013 It is not LR level non-destructive. It does write Efex treated files as a copy and you can work on different versions. Personally I have never seen a real need for total non destructiveness as I will always keep my raws. They integrated a Lightroom-style catalogue in the last iteration. I am still getting to grips with it.
CaptZoom Posted September 24, 2013 Share #65 Posted September 24, 2013 Thanks for the info Jaapv. I know you're not a fan of LR style asset management, but I find it indispensable. Not including personal projects, family pics, or photos taken with my mobile phone, I've shot almost 16,000 photos (and I'm not a machine gun type shooter). The true number is probably a bit higher, as there are always some photos that I don't keep. I like nondestructive editing for baseline editing. For rigorous editing, destructive vs nondestructive isn't a consideration, as I'm after something specific and there are multiple backups of the raw data by this point. woorob Posted September 24, 2013 Share #66 Posted September 24, 2013 I too find LR indispensable. I have over 50,000 images in my Lightroom catalog, migrated without issue from the very first version through 5.2. My catalog covers images stored in five or six different drives as well, both internal and external. In combination with Photoshop, I think it's the most remarkable software out there. I'm a huge fan of Adobe and would be lost without their photo editing products.
Your Old Dog Posted October 10, 2013 Share #67 Posted October 10, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks to all for your whining! I love LR5 and do extremely well with it. I've learned to get the results I like but the file structure is way over my head. I was starting to feel really stupid and as they say misery loves company...I'm happy here!
