Red Edge

I thoroughly dislike the blatant red dot on the M. But a plain black one looks a bit flat. So I painted one with a 0.1 mm red edge. ;)

I'm trying to decide which looks worse ... your modified Leica dot or the skin on your MM. ;) Next, you'll be showing us pictures of some god-awful man bag. :D

A standard Leica Billingham -the most practical, I find :).

jaap, why not be really cool and tape over the wretched "M" and the red badge of cowardice with black electrical tape? And, hey, let's have some picture taken with the M240 rather than of the M240. (I write this as I'm already exhausted by the chronograph thread). :D

Interesting idea, nice work, and a decent improvement.

It's a shame that, in my eyes, Leica created such a poorly designed top deck. With the frame line window removed, I feel the only pleasing options would be for complete starkness (a la MM) or for some additional engraving (such as found on the M4-P).

I'm no designer, but the lone 'M' and the lens-centred dot just don't seem to deliver the right look.

Strangely, I like the original unadulterated M.

Most, if not all of the customisations I've seen introduce their own complicating weaknesses in design.

(And as opposed to what I've learned in the Chronograph thread, I do not see "complications" as a good thing!)

Having just received a black one (chrome would have been fine as well), I agree. The red dot is far less shiny and less red saturated than the pics on the Leica site. And the black paint likewise has a softer patina.

I think it looks fine with the top plate as is, but might be tempted if DAG ever sources black dots in the right size.

It will be interesting to see what Leica cosmetically tweaks for a mere $1000 upgrade. I wouldn't be surprised if a future Monochrom version of the new M again receives the all-black treatment.

If only this were the biggest issue the world faced.
