marknorton Posted August 23, 2013 Share #1  Posted August 23, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just bought this Macro Adapter R to use with my 60mm macro and there's this odd lump next to one of the bayonet flanges. It turns out it's part of the spring ring which presses the lens back against the bayonet flange when mounted.  Any idea what it's for?  Welcome, dear visitor! hamey Posted August 24, 2013 Share #2 Â Posted August 24, 2013 Mark to what I can remember, It cannot be attached to a Leicaflex or the SL model lenses. (two cams) However I could be wrong. Â Perhaps Doug might be able to confirm it. Â Ken.
hamey Posted August 24, 2013 Share #3 Â Posted August 24, 2013 Mark, Last night I had a re-think on that lug, my Leicaflex SL has it. I cannot couple any Rom lenses on the SL so it's probably to restrict certain type of lenses. Â Again perhaps someone with more knowledge will be able to help you. Â Ken. wildlightphoto Posted August 25, 2013 Share #4 Â Posted August 25, 2013 I'd guess it's to keep lenses from being turned too far in the mount. My R8 and my SL both have it.
masjah Posted August 25, 2013 Share #5 Â Posted August 25, 2013 All the female ends of the R bayonet system seem to have it - my camera throats, my 2X Apo Extender, my Telescope Ocular, and Mark's Macro Adapter, have all got it. I think Doug is right - I think it's a safety long-stop. Normally, you push in the lens and rotate to mount, and the dismount latch clicks and locks as the the latch encounters the milled slot on the lens during its rotation. But if someone mistakenly holds down the dismount latch whils mounting the lens, then there might be a danger of rotating the lens too far. Just a thought. hamey Posted August 25, 2013 Share #7 Â Posted August 25, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) As a user and lover of the R system this had me intrigued. Doug is right on it. My two Novaflex R - EOS adapters have it as well, so I coupled an R lens to the adapter then watched it's travel from the back end, and sure enough that lug is used as a buffer stop. Â In my case, you're never to old to learn something. Â So there is your answer Mark. Â Â Ken.
marknorton Posted August 26, 2013 Author Share #8 Â Posted August 26, 2013 Thank you all - I only have three female R mounts - the macro adapter, the APO 2x converter and the telescope ocular. All have it, just haven't noticed it before. Â I assume the much anticipated R to M adapter will have it as well...
