jbstitt Posted August 23, 2013 Share #1 Posted August 23, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) HELP PLEASE: Today I got out my wonderful Leicaflex SL, fired it through the speeds then noticed that the meter was not moving. Looked at the flat threaded battery cover with the coin slot and tried to open it. It just twists. On closer examination I realized that the cover is far inside the plane of the bottom plate. Reminded me that when I put it up some time ago I took out the battery as one should. Now it looks like without the battery it was possible to turn the threaded cover too far into the socket, and I did, and it has gone past the threads and is just turning in there. I have tried holding it above my head to get the threads restarted but no luck. Has anyone had the same problem and can tell me a neat trick for getting the battery cover threads restarted so I can open the battery compartment? gravastar Posted August 23, 2013 Share #2 Posted August 23, 2013 Yes, many years ago I had exactly that problem - same camera! Solution is to use a piece of adhesive tape to stick to the top of the battery cover and pull it up/outwards while twisting to get the thread started and unscrew the cover. If that doesn't work you could try the same with double sided tape and the flat end of a wooden dowel. Good luck. Bob.
Doc Henry Posted August 23, 2013 Share #3 Posted August 23, 2013 Must force a little turning with a small coin and it must go after or do as Bob said Henry
jbstitt Posted September 6, 2013 Author Share #4 Posted September 6, 2013 I did similar to what you said. I took a small round dowel and put some waterbased paper glue on the end, stuck it to the meter cover, let it dry, then unscrewed it pulling up gently. Worked well. I appreciate the stimulation of thinking. Thanks. PS Meter still works great. I still have a few PX625s left that I bought in Europe after USA banned. Now I guess they are banned everywhere. Ahhh, and the sound and feel of an SL. There is nothing like it.
TomB_tx Posted September 6, 2013 Share #5 Posted September 6, 2013 PX625 is still made in Russia. Someone tried selling them on eBay, but they stopped him after an environmentalist complained.
