guywalder Posted April 10, 2007 Share #1  Posted April 10, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) with apologies for raking over this subject yet again......  Leica apparently dont want to give us a menu option to specify which lens is fitted because they fear we are not bright enough to use it. Ignoring the fact that I have no choice other than to manually focus (no bad thing), and I am free to completely screw up exposure should my concentration lapse, what Really irks me about the answer to this particular request is that I ALREADY have the option to screw up lens recognition via the 'coding recognition ON/OFF' choice, you know, menu item No.1 I could live with some great technical difficulty preventing it, but treating me as too stupid to use the camera is insulting  yours frustratedly, Guy

wattsy Posted April 10, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted April 10, 2007 Personally, I see Leica's reluctance to allow manual selection of lenses as continuing the long M tradition of automatic selection such as found with the framelines. Over the years, we have ended up with a crazy mish mash of framelines (anybody here think the 50/75 combination is a great idea?) but at least we always get the right frameline set for a given lens. j. borger Posted April 10, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted April 10, 2007 anybody here think the 50/75 combination is a great idea This is probably my most prominent issue with the M8 ..... expecially because 50mm is a focal length i use very often : a very confusing combination! cbretteville Posted April 10, 2007 Share #5  Posted April 10, 2007 I could live with some great technical difficulty preventing it, but treating me as too stupid to use the camera is insulting  My thoughts exactly! Yes, it may be an issue remembering to change it when the lesn is changed, but so is to reset +/- EV and a million other things with a manual camera like the M8 (just to mention a few: misplaced focus, camera shake and bad exposures). As they've made identifying the lens more or less a requirement, this method should be an option.  We'll just have to keep on nagging them until they give us what we want.  - Carl
