Northwest Wanderer Posted August 16, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted August 16, 2013 Bill , beautiful picture of this horse in endurance race of Indian originIsn't the official horse of the Idaho state? Best Henry Thanks Henry, Yup the appaloosa is the state horse. The Nez Perce raised them to be sturdy mounts. Back during the Indian Wars, the U.S. Calvary could not compete with the Appaloosa on their standard breeds.

Northwest Wanderer Posted August 16, 2013 Author Share #5 Posted August 16, 2013 Thank you Lawrence, This horse was built like a tank. I think he'd have potential as a roping horse or maybe bull dogging. If nothing else, he sure is beautiful to look at.
Karl G Posted August 17, 2013 Share #6 Posted August 17, 2013 Bill, very beautiful horse, and fines true. Although we had thoroughbreds, our partner and her girls are very involved in breeding and showing Appys. I knew they were good but just looked at their web site and saw : World Champion and top 10 at the World Championship Appaloosa Youth Shows in 2005, 2006 and 2007 and 2010, and Youth Year End High Point in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Girls are now in college and a little busy to maintain the pace but did earn scholarships for their endeavors. . The horse you pictured looks absolutely gorgeous and very representative of the modern champion Appys which , IMO, are getting more and more Quarter Horse like in form to my eye. Northwest Wanderer Posted August 17, 2013 Author Share #9 Posted August 17, 2013 Thanks Karl, Dee & Newnew. Karl, I agree the breed is getting more Quarter Horse looking. Seems that's what people seem to like for show. On the Nez Perce Reservation, I do see a lot of leaner and more utility looking horses. In Arizona I saw many which were not much larger than ponies being used for trail riding.

Northwest Wanderer Posted August 17, 2013 Author Share #13 Posted August 17, 2013 Thank you Paul, This horse is being trained to be a part of the Sheriff's Dept. mountain rescue team. They do rescues in the Frank Church, River of No Return Wilderness. Very wild country with no roads to speak of.
