Bill , beautiful picture of this horse in endurance race of Indian origin

Isn't the official horse of the Idaho state?

Best

Henry

Thanks Henry,

Yup the appaloosa is the state horse. The Nez Perce raised them to be sturdy mounts. Back during the Indian Wars, the U.S. Calvary could not compete with the Appaloosa on their standard breeds.

Bill, very beautiful horse, and fines true. Although we had thoroughbreds, our partner and her girls are very involved in breeding and showing Appys. I knew they were good but just looked at their web site and saw : World Champion and top 10 at the World Championship Appaloosa Youth Shows in 2005, 2006 and 2007 and 2010, and Youth Year End High Point in 2005, 2006 and 2007.

Girls are now in college and a little busy to maintain the pace but did earn scholarships for their endeavors. :).

The horse you pictured looks absolutely gorgeous and very representative of the modern champion Appys which , IMO, are getting more and more Quarter Horse like in form to my eye.

Thanks Karl, Dee & Newnew.

Karl, I agree the breed is getting more Quarter Horse looking. Seems that's what people seem to like for show.

On the Nez Perce Reservation, I do see a lot of leaner and more utility looking horses. In Arizona I saw many which were not much larger than ponies being used for trail riding.
