EddieB Posted August 9, 2013 Share #1 Posted August 9, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Not strictly my first post on the forum, but the few others have been one line responses to others' comments or queries. I've been following the forum for quite a while, although, like many, I haven't started any threads. I've been in photography - strictly keen amateur only - for over 30 years and I'd built up quite a collection of cameras and formats over that time - including Leica. A few years ago I think I must have been hit with Leica fever; as a result I recently bagged up a whole bundle of camera gear and took a trip to Ffordes (Scotland), where I did a trade for a couple extra Leica lenses and some stuff to let me get photographs on the web. So now I'm down to just 35mm film (M4 and M6TTL) and the M9. With a bit of help and encouragement from Bruce Robbins (check out his blog The Online Darkroom) I've managed to start my own blog, which is intended to track my progress with the "Leicas only" approach. If you're interested (or just can't think of anything better to do) the blog is at : A Tale of Three Leicas I'd be interested in any feedback - I've tried not to make it just another gear talk shop. It's more about the photographs and the background story to some of them. Best Regards EddieB

honcho Posted August 12, 2013 Share #2 Posted August 12, 2013 ....So now I'm down to just 35mm film (M4 and M6TTL)..... It was the fact that you have reduced your camera bodies to two-thirds film that caught my eye, I invariably ignore posts with links to camera equipment 'reviews' on someone's blog. It's always good to see film-based Leica photography being kept alive, so for once I followed your link because it seems unpretentious and you have invited comments about your blog. I like many of the images, they are of a good technical standard and the scanning is good, which reflects in the reproduction on your posts . The text is generally interesting and readable, although far too long in parts. I think it would benefit by being more concise. The Blogger theme you have chosen is hideous, it overpowers everything else (especially on a 27" monitor) like the worst 1970's wallpaper. I would change it to something more neutral that won't compete with the template and images. I would also use a custom domain rather than the .blogspot you currently have. The key is to post regularly and tag your posts and images accordingly. Your blog will soon be picked up by a similar community who will add it to their blogrolls which in turn will expose you to a wider audience. Hope this is helpful. Good luck with it, but keep the template clean and simple and get rid of that bookshelf theme!
EddieB Posted August 12, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted August 12, 2013 Hi Honcho Many thanks for taking the time to reply and for the honest - and helpful - feedback. I have to admit I'm a complete novice when it comes to IT and digital stuff, so any comment is going to help me - including the selection of templates and domain types etc for the presentation in general. I'll need to check what alternatives are available - my own tastes are suspect, I think, that's why my wife does the selections for the interior decorating at home.... I wonder if she'd be interested in blog decor'... Thanks again - appreciate that you've visited. Blog or not, I'm doing my best to keep the film Leicas running! honcho Posted August 12, 2013 Share #4 Posted August 12, 2013 Eddie, blogs are still a powerful force despite other forms of social networking which have impacted on blogging. My first blog, not specifically about photography but does include a lot of my work, brings in it's own (very, very modest!) income. My posts on that blog are few and far between these days and after looking at your new blog, I revisited my stats page. I was astonished that it still receives an average of over 6000 hits a month and my last blog post was in June. Long past time for another blog post there and I'll add your blog to my blogroll. Many of my blog readers and followers are keen photographers, so hopefully it'll help you get seen.
EddieB Posted August 12, 2013 Author Share #5 Posted August 12, 2013 Honcho I couldn't ask for more than that! Very generous with your help and advice. 6,000 hits per month?? Sounds like a good ambition to me - I'm on my way to your site now, obviously I've a lot to learn... Once again, many thanks - very much appreciated. Now, I've got to get started on dismantling those blog bookshelves.. Best regards
