Central Hong Kong

I have seen numerous pictures taken by others in this forum that are really beautiful. The composition, lighting, subject focus, timing, etc., are perfect and how I wish I could take such photos. But somehow, whenever I am out with my camera, I usually ended up with ordinary looking photographs - maybe that is what I am doing - recording the mundane. Here is one I hope to have your valuable feedback to make me better next time.

A little about the photograph - it was taken facing directly at Queen Victoria Street. The building on the left is what was the Central Market (for fresh produce).

...The area where the market is located was a market place for century. There had been demolitions and re-buildings in 1842, 1857, 1895 and 1939. The latest one built is the fourth generation. It is one of the examples of the Streamline Moderne architecture. The building is also characterized by the building’s slim horizontal lines and functionalism. In March 2003, the Central Market ceased to operate"... quote from "centraloasis.org.hk"

It has been boarded up ready and waiting for re-development for some time now. Talking about procrastination. This area used to be bustling with neighbourhood residents. But it has changed since the closure of the market. Read somewhere that the building structure will be kept and be an integral part of the redevelopment - which is a good news. You will notice the graphics on the boarding - an attempt to make it less an eyesore from street view.

Feedback: what is the subject? The person crossing with the bright yellow stripes is a strong graphic as are the graffiti. I would suggest to get in closer with the 35mm lens as there is a lot of empty space in the foreground.

Thanks for the feedback. You are right about the empty space in front. I took straight down the middle because I like to record the left and the right side of the once bustling street. I also wanted the new tower at the far end - looming over the soon to be redeveloped building - rather menacingly. I will go back there again to walk around more and re-compose and I note your advise. Thanks.

I like pictures of houses with people at the water's edge.:)

Thanks for the encouragement. The houses along the waterway was taken at a "water town" called ZhouZhuang, near to Shanghai. It is so scenic that even I can get a few nice pictures out from it.
