Advertisement Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Hi benedict297, Take a look here M-E with no hotshoe cover?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
marknorton Posted August 2, 2013 Share #2 Posted August 2, 2013 Keep in mind that the M-E is basically an M9 and that camera never came with a hot shoe cover. The am Typ 240 does come with a hot shoe cover which is more to protect the EVF port.
Mijo Posted August 3, 2013 Share #3 Posted August 3, 2013 Mine didn't come with one either. I bought one from popflash, but it only comes in black.
jaapv Posted August 3, 2013 Share #4 Posted August 3, 2013 Actually the hotshoe cover of the M serves to complete the weather sealing. Nether the M8 nor the M9/ME/MM have ever been delivered with a hotshoe cover.
marknorton Posted August 3, 2013 Share #5 Posted August 3, 2013 You can also use a Nikon BS-1 but you will need to file a notch in the end to get around the screw.

kamuishirou1999 Posted August 3, 2013 Share #7 Posted August 3, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I use the Thumbs Up to cover my hot shoe. (Thumbs Up EP-1S) They have one for the M-E.
DWatts Posted August 3, 2013 Share #8 Posted August 3, 2013 Hi, just unwrapped my m-e and noticed there was no cover for the hot shoe. Is this normal? On eBay it is possible to get a bubble level mounted on a small rubber plate that you slide into the hot shoe and does what yoy need. Otherwise you can get a hot shoecover to fit either the Leica D-LUX 5 / 6 or its Panasonic equivalent. Both work well. The bubble one is my M9 choice. Peter H Posted August 3, 2013 Share #9 Posted August 3, 2013 it doesn't really need a hot-shoe cover does it? The M only needs one as a means to providing a cover for the EVF connection, which the ME doesn't have, obviously.
douglasf13 Posted August 6, 2013 Share #10 Posted August 6, 2013 I use the Thumbs Up to cover my hot shoe. (Thumbs Up EP-1S) They have one for the M-E. I also used the Thumbs Up cover. It snag-proofs the hotshoe a bit.
rramesh Posted August 6, 2013 Share #11 Posted August 6, 2013 you can buy one of these online. With a bit of filing you can adapt to the Leica M9/M9-P. Most are made of either rubber or hard plastic. The level does come in handy if you are using a monopod or Leica table tripod. HotShoe Bubble Spirit Level for Sony & Minolta Camera | eBay
NikonJeff Posted August 6, 2013 Share #12 Posted August 6, 2013 I bought one of these from Popflash Photo for my M9 and it has worked out great. I rarely use a flash with my M9 but I want to keep the contacts clean and reduce the "snag" of the exposed hot shoe. MATCH TECHNICAL "LEICA" HOT SHOE CAP NEW Jeff G. douglasf13 Posted August 7, 2013 Share #13 Posted August 7, 2013 I also used the Thumbs Up cover. It snag-proofs the hotshoe a bit. I realized that I misread the prior post. I didn't use a Thumbs Up on the M9, but, rather, the hotshoe cap from Match Technical.
Duane Pandorf Posted August 7, 2013 Share #14 Posted August 7, 2013 I think the additional silver showing adds to look of the camera. Plus I'd just lose the cover anyway. Kinda of like some of the Leica lens caps. When the camera comes out of the bag the lens cap stays in the bag.
pico Posted August 7, 2013 Share #15 Posted August 7, 2013 Hi, just unwrapped my m-e and noticed there was no cover for the hot shoe. Is this normal? Yes. It is normal. Why do you think it is necessary? /
