Chris101-MM Posted July 31, 2013 Share #1 Posted July 31, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey all. I just received my new SF 24D flash, and loving it on my Monochrom. (Yeah yeah, I know what "some/many" do have special "thoughts" on flashes on M systems, but thats not the point here) I use my flash for a small amount of fill flash in certain situations, and need to get hold of a good charger for the, i suppose - CR123A, batteries and a Omnibounce for the flash. Anyone here that have some experience with any good products, and can point me in the right direction, preferably within the EU? Any help is greatly appreciated! Cheers, Chris

jaapv Posted July 31, 2013 Share #2 Posted July 31, 2013 The SF 24 D will not function with rechargable batteries. You need to get the normal lithium ones. And no charger. Leicagoodies make a diffuser for the flash.

For me a batterie contains electricity, and the unit using it shouldn't care as to what stores it as long as it is the right voltage and amps. Excuse my silly questions, I just don't get it. Edit: Thanks for your swift reply Jaapv!

Edit: Thanks for your swift reply Jaapv! I don't know how it will affect the 24D but a standard CR-123a battery is 3v and the rechargeable CR-123a batteries that I've seen are 3.7v. According to the manual it doesn't state you "can't" use rechargeable batteries but my guess is that you are risking your flash with the higher voltage LiOn rechargeable... From the manual: Suitable batteries The LEICA SF 24D is powered by two 3V li- thium batteries, e.g. DL 123A or CR 123A. These batteries can be stored for many years with almost no loss of power. A fresh set of batteries is sufficient for approx. 370 full-power flashes (according to Leica test standards).
jaapv Posted July 31, 2013 Share #5 Posted July 31, 2013 No it simply refuses to switch on - I mistakenly threw a flash in the bin thinking it was broken before I found out that the rechargable batteries were to blame.
Chris101-MM Posted July 31, 2013 Author Share #6 Posted July 31, 2013 Great big thanks for updating my knowledge guys! Probably should have read the manual before going to work. I almost went to a local store and bought a charger and batteries, so thanks for stopping me in time!
magosak Posted July 31, 2013 Share #7 Posted July 31, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I used my SF24D with rechargeable LR123A (3.6V) batteries that I got on eBay. I stopped using them when I came across a similar discussion where someone reported that rechargeable LR123As can damage the flash.
jaapv Posted July 31, 2013 Share #8 Posted July 31, 2013 Well, maybe the flash I binned was really dead - killed by the rechargeable batteries at first switch-on. I never bothered to check.
