geordie01 Posted July 27, 2013 Share #1 Â Posted July 27, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi guys I am new around here I have just obtained a R3 mot and three lenses from my late uncles estate. There seems to be a problem with the shutter when in manual, at 1000 and 500 sec setting shutter fires and returns ok but below this shutter fires and can take 8 -10 secs before returning. It works fine on auto and b settings. Anyone got any ideas on this, camera seems to be in great condition otherwise and I quite fancy using it. Thanks Geordie

earleygallery Posted July 27, 2013 Share #2 Â Posted July 27, 2013 Hi, Â The shutters tend to fail in Auto mode, that is they work in manual but won't fire correctly when auto AE is selected. Â Usually repair is uneconomical as you can buy working R3's for low prices, but it must be worth letting a camera repairer take a look. That, or just keep using Auto (and the metering in the R3 is particularly good).
Hugh 38 Posted July 27, 2013 Share #3 Â Posted July 27, 2013 Oh dear. It sounds like the electronics have failed , they can fail in different ways . As suggested get the camera checked as it may be a simple repair , but unfortunately if the electrics have gone wrong it is seldom worth repairing the R3 .I have 2 defective ones and one still working correctly . geordie01 Posted July 28, 2013 Author Share #4 Â Posted July 28, 2013 Thanks for the reply's I will probably give it a go on auto only as I want to try the lenses out I have a Elmarit 28mm f2.8 3 cam and a 50mm R summicron and a vario 75-200 elmar and it seems a sin not to use them as unfortunately there does not seem to be an adaptor to pentax which is my main set up. sc_rufctr Posted July 28, 2013 Share #5 Â Posted July 28, 2013 Don't be surprised if it starts to work normally after some use. Just moving the dials and switches can get things working again. Â Imagine all of the older R bodies out there that haven't seen a roll of film on decades
