It's plant growth on red sandstone on Hilbre island, 2 1/2 miles off the coast, not far from our house. It's a 45 minute walk across the sand at low tide to get there. We go there to watch the colony of common seals that live on a sand-bank another mile further out.

Now, all we need is a marine botanist to tell us what it actually is!

Amazing effect Andy. I suffer from vertigo and I could hardly look at this picture without feeling dizzy:eek::eek:
