BCMielke Posted July 18, 2013 Share #1 Â Posted July 18, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am new to Leica cameras, I had a GXR M-Mount for quite awhile. I just received my M(240) and I have been looking at Leica R glass specifically because of the two Macro lenses. the 60 Elmarit and the 100 f/2.8. Â I am a little confused by this Cam 1,2 or 3 and ROM. I know the Cam 3 lenses are new and seem to have a chip in them, but does that mean that it is a ROM chip or is that a different matter? Â Either way I am trying to get the best version of these lenses for my M(240) One that will use the Leica adapter when it comes out most effectively and of course works well on the M(240) Â Could someone offer guidance on how best to proceed? Â Thanks for the help.
Advertisement Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 Hi BCMielke, Take a look here Leica R lenses on the M(240). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
masjah Posted July 18, 2013 Share #2 Â Posted July 18, 2013 The R/M adapter is "blind" so far as the Leicaflex/SL/SL2/R system cams are concerned. so for this purpose it doesn't really matter what variant of R lens you use. If you wish to use also on R cameras it's a different matter. The Leica WIKI on this site gives details of the R mount and cams, and what lens can be used on what cameras, with links to Wikipedia, which should tell you what you need to know.. . mmx_2 Posted July 18, 2013 Share #3 Â Posted July 18, 2013 If your not planning on using a R-camera it can financially be better to buy slightly older lenses (without ROM) because the are cheaper than the ROM-variants and gives you exactly the same performance on the M. One example is the APO-MACRO Elmarit 100mm which exist both with and without ROM.

Cams and / or ROM might have been added to older lenses and ROM lenses might have been changed to 3-cam. It's best to rely on other details to determine the age or version of the lens. Â Â ... I am trying to get the best version of these lenses for my M(240) Â If you expect to use both of these excellent macro lenses and you want to use a polarizing or other filter I'd suggest the older version of the 60mm lens because it can use the same E60 filters the 100 APO uses and it's optically identical to the later version. BCMielke Posted July 19, 2013 Author Share #5 Â Posted July 19, 2013 I didn't think to look at the filter size. Since I would eventually like to own them both, that's a good tip. I have problem 10 CP filters, but none that are 60mm. Â I do shoot some film so it might be reasonable to at least look at the Leica R series of cameras to see if I might have an interest in getting one later. I then use my Cokin P size 62mm Adapter ring and holder with a series of Singh-Ray Lighter Brighter Warm Polarizing filter, Singh-Ray Gold-N-Blue Polarizing filter, a variety of Singh-Ray Grad ND and Reverse ND filters, as well as Singh-Ray ND filters.  Rich
wildlightphoto Posted July 19, 2013 Share #7  Posted July 19, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) 60mm thread size R lenses include ... 180mm f3.4 Apo Telyt  Older models of the 180mm f/3.4 APO-Telyt-R used Series 7.5 filters. At one time these lenses could be modified by Leica to use E60 filters but I'm not sure if this service is still available.

I was aware of that for older specimens of this lens, but just omitted to include that. It is useful information for BCMielke just the same.
