jeffu Posted July 18, 2013 Share #1 Posted July 18, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just wondering if anyone's tried the Gariz case on their new M? It's certainly more affordable (about $199 US) than a lot of other options and it looks pretty substantial with a metal bottom. If anyone has tried one, I'm wondering how it fits and if it adds any height with the bottom plate.

pfhrased Posted July 18, 2013 Share #2 Posted July 18, 2013 I haven't tried one on an M, but I can describe the Gariz case I had for the X100; The metal bottom plate is just a layer of thin metal over several wafers of plastic, and the finish around the openings of this plate were a bit on the rough side. The leather felt considerably cheaper than the X100 leather case. Given the M case doesn't have openings for SD / Battery, it's hard to say whether it's built the same way - but it doesn't look terribly different. It was much nicer to use than the Fuji case - very thoughtfully shaped, and still looked the part. I'd probably avoid one of their cases on a Leica, tbh. bill Posted July 18, 2013 Share #3 Posted July 18, 2013 I have one on my X-E1. It does the job, for the price. It is a bit garish, though and the metal base can be sharp in your hand in prolonged use. I'd go Luigi for a Leica, every time. lucerne Posted July 18, 2013 Share #4 Posted July 18, 2013 Just wondering if anyone's tried the Gariz case on their new M? It's certainly more affordable (about $199 US) than a lot of other options and it looks pretty substantial with a metal bottom. If anyone has tried one, I'm wondering how it fits and if it adds any height with the bottom plate. Not on my M, but on my much hated NEX7. Generally this brand is nicely made with thick leather, neat stitching and is well fitting. It adds just under one centimetre to the height (which I consider valuable on the NEX7), therefore improving grip and providing access to the battery and card. Doesn't improve the camera and I only purchased it to stop the camera leather stretching and detaching from the body due to the heat from my hand. On the NEX7, the case makes use of the existing tripod mount to secure itself to the body, but introduces a further mount at a different position. HTH.
