I got one of these used I pretty rough shape (at a really good price) but it works perfectly and is amazing! I already shot 2 vacations and 1 senior portrait session!

I am very pleased with the the easy to use manual mode as well as the user friendly automatic mode!

The Black and white mode is amazing! And I really it! For what I use it for the slower autofocus and shutter per second does not bother me at all!

I got a metal filter holder for it and that's about all I got extra for it!

Well, you have proof that a used X1 is still capable of producing excellent pictures. Enjoy! Mine is in constant use. Consider getting a handgrip and OVF; the latter is beneficial in bright light outdoors.

Congratulations to you and I hope nobody minds if i tag along on this thread as I did actually get a used X1 just last Sunday and I'm just giving it a ride )

When i did open my first shots in LR5 I did notice how the jpeg's seem sharper than the DNG's files and I was a bit surprised by that. I understand the camera processes/sharpens the jpeg's already internally as you can set the amount of sharpness in the menu. I guess the sharpness in the DNG's is just up to how steady the operator is and some post in LR5? Just checking with you all if this is the way it is.

Thanks in advance!

I only ever work with DNG files which leaves all post control to me. You are right; jpegs can be sharpened in camera, depending on your default settings in the MENU. But don't let that influence you over relative sharpness. DNG files have so much more digital image information for you to exploit at your will.

One more thought. If you experiment and find a group of LR5 development settings which suit you, capture them as a preset. Then you can use that preset at importation of future files from the camera. That saves time and gives you consistency.

Thank you David! To rephrase my question; is it normal in this camera for the DNG files to appear softer than the jpegs? The X1 captures and saves both formats, apparently cannot do just DNG, and I did happen to AB them when importing in LR5.

I would say yes, since I believe no sharpening is applied to DNG files. You do that in LR.

Of course, I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure this is the case. This is a good thing btw.

I cannot compare because my LR is set just to work on the raw files. I don't save separate jpegs. But raw files can appear softer when first downloaded. Invest time in exploring the level of sharpening you find acceptable when working in the Develop module.

Thanks again to both. It is very helpful to have your feedback. After another shooting yesterday I see more what this can camera can do and appreciate the quality of the DNG files as well.

I was out yesterday in Coney Island, NYC, a paradise for street/beach photography and just plenty good time. There was a talent show on the boardwalk and got this shot of "Robert Jackson". Nothing special but the LX1 just impressed me with the quality of the image and files.

It is not for sure an "action" camera and the viewfinder is very bad, with the sun light...forget it....Will need to try the Olympus eye viewfinder and give it another round. It will possibly speed up things too.

I too have an X1 and have found the Olympus viewfinder extremely useful - especially as I live in Cyprus, where we have 300 days of sunshine a year!

Great photo, BTW...
