Jaymuc Posted July 9, 2013 Share #1 Posted July 9, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) As I am presently in the process of assemblying my m equipment (delivery times of the M 240 are somewhat long for my taste ), I will probably go with a 35 lux, 50 lux and 90 summarit combination, maybe to be followed by a 21/3,4 in the not too distant future. As for focussing the tele lens (and maybe the 50) would you go for (a) the optical magnifier ( the EVF © leave it as is And how seamlessly does the optical version work (reading of the info in the optical viewfinder etc.) - would you go for the 1.45 version or the 1.25? Advise is very much appreciated. Looking forward to some help on this, Jay
Advertisement Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Hi Jaymuc, Take a look here magnifyer for 50 and 90 lens. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
furcafe Posted July 9, 2013 Share #2 Posted July 9, 2013 Do you have problems focusing 50s & longer lenses on your current setup (& what magnfication VF)? Or are you a RF newbie?
ma9ical Posted July 9, 2013 Share #3 Posted July 9, 2013 I would only comment on the 1.25x magnifier as I do not own the EVF. It is certainly not required for 50mm at f2, but if your vision is not best, at f1.4 for some subject or in low light I would recommend it. Don't forget that framing on a 50mm with a magnifier is not the most practicle as you can hardly see the full "frame". Clearly for 90mm it is highly recommended, if not the next magnification level. I am happy with 1.25x. The best is to try if you can, of course.
sblutter Posted July 12, 2013 Share #4 Posted July 12, 2013 +1 for the 1.25 magnifier. Increased my accuracy with 50mm
jonoslack Posted July 12, 2013 Share #5 Posted July 12, 2013 Well, I'll go for practice. For me, one of the real points of the M is that you are always looking at the same field of view - putting a magnifier on changes that, and to me it changes everything. I'm not convinced it makes focusing easier either - and it certainly dims down the viewfinder, which is a bad thing if you're eyesight isn't splendid (like mine). So - me - I go for no additions to the viewfinder, but lots of practice. all the best
viramati Posted July 12, 2013 Share #6 Posted July 12, 2013 for the 50 I would certainly leave it as it is and probably also for the 90. I tried the 1.4 magnifier and found that you just lost too much contrast on the focus patch and in fact it became harder to focus especially in lower light. The same is true to a degree with the 1.25 though to a lesser extent
jaapv Posted July 12, 2013 Share #7 Posted July 12, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) The magnifier does not work for me. The EVF is rather practical though. (I prefer the rangefinder)
sanyasi Posted July 12, 2013 Share #8 Posted July 12, 2013 I have the 1.25 and leave it in for everything.
wda Posted July 12, 2013 Share #9 Posted July 12, 2013 You should not need a magnifier with live-view and M240. You should be able to magnify the image. But for OVF I find a 1.4x magnifier very useful. It does not impair my image selection but does add accuracy to focusing. Less so with the 50.
