I currently have an Olympus OM-D, and 4 prime lenses, 12,25,45 and 70mm which I realize is a much different camera then the XV. Â I always shoot my OM-D at base ISO which is 200 and F4-F5.6 then I have to always ETTR by at least one stop to deal with noisy blue skies. Â Now comes along the XV, I would shoot it at F8 almost all the time and adjust ISO to get a reasonable shutter speed to hand hold the XV. Â From what I have seen the XV IQ is better then my OM-D except maybe when using my Olympus 75/1.8 which is an outstanding lens. Â Yet I am so tempted to have a camera which I don't have to change lenses, have a bigger sensor and an excellent zoom lens which has great corner to corner sharpness. Â What am I missing in my analysis? Â Yeah I know my OM-D focuses fast, builtin EVF, though I would just get the Oly. VF-2 and hope that Leica updates there FW to work with the newer VF-4 which is excellent and of course the IBIS that the OM-D has, yet I really never use. I am not a low light indoor shooter anyway. Â I think the XV IQ will be better when conditions are very favorable to the XV, but there may be conditions that aren't ideal for the XV where you would use it anyway, and in those cases the XV may not perform as well as another camera. That's the thing we all run into now and then, and unless you have the other camera handy at the same time, you could find yourself getting less than what you hoped for. It's nothing against the XV, it's just that when you choose image quality (under the right conditions) over performance as a priority, that can happen. Â Yeah I know my OM-D focuses fast, builtin EVF, though I would just get the Oly. VF-2 and hope that Leica updates there FW to work with the newer VF-4 which is excellent and of course the IBIS that the OM-D has, yet I really never use. I am not a low light indoor shooter anyway. I have an X2 and am very happy with the AF and AE functions. I shoot a lot of lowlight, so this would not be ideal for that, but sounds like it will be a nice improvement over the for what you do. Â What I might add to your analyses: -OMD AF is faster (even though I am doing fine with the AF-speed of the X-Vario even for my small kids; and I enjoy the spot focus function of the x-vario -OMD is weather sealed;-x-vario is not -the user interface is different-I really like the "analog" wheels and scales of the x-vario; -The OMD has an eye sensor for the EVF - the x-vario does not have it. Â Overall I believe if you like the user interface of the x-vario and if you like a little bit more dof anyways and if the 24-70mm zoom range is fine for you the x-vario should be an excellent choice! I like this camera a lot. The OMD system is much more flexible overall, but the x-vario is more joy to use and the IQ is even better. Â So far, very impressed. I've never regretted selling other camera gear to buy Leicas. Converse not true. Hopefully the trend continues.
