Advertisement Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Hi MarkP, Take a look here Any one here using Sony Rx1. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Mixalis Posted August 1, 2013 Share #22 Posted August 1, 2013 With the announcement of the Sony RX1r, I find myself increasingly interested in this camera. I find myself not using my canon 5DM3 and lenses, as my primary camera is a Leica MP, Tri X and 50 lux. I would really like to hear some of your daily use opinions on this camera, if you own it? Per, I pooh-poohed the RX1 when it was first announced and decided to stick with my X2 for those occasions when I didn't want to carry an M or wanted just a 35mm prime. Then I saw a mint condition RX1 in a local Leica dealer's window. It was 65% of list price and I just couldn't resist it. I absolutely love the camera; there isn't much about it not to like, frankly, and I have sold the X2 because I just wasn't getting any use out of it. The RX1 handles brilliantly, although I would welcome an add-on grip such as a Freniac. The only bad point is poor battery life. It has the same battery as the RX100. Since I also have an RX100 I have three batteries and that keeps me going. I like the in-camera charging, despite other people's howls of dismay. The EVF is the best I have tried (twice the resolution of the EVF for the X2/M240) but it is pricey. In my view it is an essential accessory but the good thing is that it will probably remain current for a few years; it certainly fits the RX1R, for instance. The EVF is a bit of a barnacle on the camera, as are all such hotshoe-mounted finders, but at least you can unmount it when just carrying the camera around for snapshots, particularly in the evening when the rear screen is more useful. A cheap Voigtlander 35mm optical finder looks good on the RX1 and is moderately useful if only for framing. There's no real substitute for the EVF, though. All in all I would thoroughly recommend this camera. But I hear rumours of a full-frame NEX coming next month, so maybe as well to wait to see what happens. There's no real substitute for the EVF, though. I assumed the same, but once I had both, I ended up getting rid of the EVF, because my AF hit rate is very good with the OVF, and I use autoISO in manual mode, so I don't really need a bunch of info in the viewfinder. You can "feel" the AF lock in your hands when using the OVF, and it works great. Of course, I can also use the LCD in some situations, but I like having an optical option. To be honest, my AF and exposure hit rate with the OVF are as good as they are with my X100s' hybrid OVF.
almoore Posted August 5, 2013 Share #24 Posted August 5, 2013 The EVF comes with two rubber eyepieces, a small one and a large one. As a glasses wearer I found it best to leave the EVF naked. Even the smaller hood causes the problem you mention Does using the EVF without the eyecup cause problems in bright light? I don't have much experience of using EVFs, but I'm guessing the eyecups are included for a reason. Thanks.
