jpk Posted June 27, 2013 Author Share #21 Posted June 27, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) The only explanation I have is that the MM sensor noise patterns create some sort of Moiré interference with rotation algorithms. That is exactly what I thought: some kind of moiré interference, related to in-camera lens correction. This is not the case, because with lens correction OFF it apperas also. But not only with files from the MM: I also checked Nikon RAWs where the same happens. It happens regardless which software (Lightroom, Photoshop, RAWtherapee) I use, or if I apply NR or not respective NR before or after rotation. It appears always, but the more noise is there the more visible is the grid pattern.

jpk Posted June 27, 2013 Author Share #22 Posted June 27, 2013 Could you also post the same shot before rotation ? Yes, here it is: Welcome, dear visitor! jaapv Posted June 27, 2013 Share #23 Posted June 27, 2013 Uhm... not so sure it is the same.In any case, the OP says that the same happens in PS if he exports TIFF. The only explanation I have is that the MM sensor noise patterns create some sort of Moiré interference with rotation algorithms. Check also here, first picture is self explanatory: Moiré pattern - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Basically LR is a simplified PS with a different user interface. CheshireCat Posted June 27, 2013 Share #24 Posted June 27, 2013 Yes, here it is: The noise banding patterns are visible also in the original image, just less evident. I stick with my hypothesis.
jpk Posted June 27, 2013 Author Share #25 Posted June 27, 2013 The noise banding patterns are visible also in the original image, just less evident. The banding is independent from the grid pattern which only apperas after rotation of a noisy image - I have the same issue with files without banding... CheshireCat Posted June 27, 2013 Share #26 Posted June 27, 2013 Basically LR is a simplified PS with a different user interface. I believe that a citation is needed at this point.
