wlaidlaw Posted April 6, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted April 6, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I decided this morning to re-run the firmware update, which I had done "in the field" in Barcelona after a lock up and with a somewhat low battery. I carry around an otherwise useless 16Mb SD card with, as I thought, the 1.092 update file on it. When I put it in the camera, nothing happened. I have now found that after the camera runs the update, it deletes the file from the card. Not a big problem, I just formatted the card in the camera, then reloaded the update from my Mac onto it and ran the update. Afterwards I repeated the process of formatting and loading the update onto the card. The point of this is to warn anyone who thinks they are carrying around a card with the update on it - it is a "one use only" process and then the file has to be reloaded onto the card. chetccox Posted April 6, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted April 6, 2007 Have you tried turning on the lock on the card? I haven't tried to update this way but the card and pictures on it are still read by the camera. It may be able to read the update file as well but could not erase it. Â Chet, Â Given the apparent fragility of the whole system, I would do nothing other than exactly what the firmware update instructions say. If the update was unable to wipe the update file, I hate to think of the possible domino effect on the rest of the update. I'll let you try it first:+}} The whole process is not a problem, as long as you are aware in advance that it is a "once only" process and then it is "reload". chetccox Posted April 6, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted April 6, 2007 I tried it twice. It works perfectly and shows no errors. I reverted to 1.09, and back to 1.092. The instructions do not emphasize that the card is not to be locked so you have still followed them.
