Advertisement Posted June 18, 2013 Posted June 18, 2013 Hi MrKitty, Take a look here Leica Factory Records. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted June 18, 2013 Share #2 Posted June 18, 2013 See the links in the collectors forum. There are links to databases which will confirm the camera/lens types and dates. I doubt you will find any more general info than that however.
joeswe Posted June 19, 2013 Share #3 Posted June 19, 2013 MrKitty, for such specific information you will probably have to contact Leica directly. Of course they will not just give you a copy of all of their records, you will have to make a legitimate request for the serial number you are interested in. Some time ago, I "found" a 1946 Elmar 5cm that was engraved as US Army property. I contacted Leica and asked about the serial number and including a photo, explaining that I wanted to sell the lens and make sure that the engraving was not fake. It took some weeks but I got an answer from the person who handles the archives at Leica that included a copy of the page of their original factory records that stated that the serial number in question had indeed been delivered to the US Army on the xxth of xx, 1946. I'm sure that I read - on this forum - that the person who used to look after the archives and respond to such queries is no longer with Leica, and they generally don't provide this service any more. joeswe Posted June 19, 2013 Share #5 Posted June 19, 2013 I'm sure that I read - on this forum - that the person who used to look after the archives and respond to such queries is no longer with Leica, and they generally don't provide this service any more. That would be bad news, I checked my notes, the person who answered my inquiry at the time was a Mr. Siegfried Brück, head of the Leica Museum. The Leica website still lists him as active in this function. Also, the email exchange took place in November 2011, so it was not too long ago, but unfortunately it is entirely possible that Leica stopped offering this service...
