Phil U Posted June 18, 2013 Share #2 Posted June 18, 2013 Are your Nik plugins still working after updating to PS CC?
Hookeye Posted June 18, 2013 Share #3 Posted June 18, 2013 I absolutely don't like it. I belive Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom 5 will be the last products you can buy outright from Adobe. In the future, the only option is to 'rent' them at a monthly fee and you get automatic updates. Needless to say, this is a move to work around pirate-copying which has become endemic. However, the deal looks like an absolute rip-off to me. Here in Norway you have to pay the equivalent of USD 83 / month for the privlilege of using both Photoshop and Lightroom. That is close to USD 1000 (sic) a year.
LucisPictor Posted June 18, 2013 Share #4 Posted June 18, 2013 Are your Nik plugins still working after updating to PS CC? Exactly my concern!
Guest WPalank Posted June 18, 2013 Share #5 Posted June 18, 2013 Will be loading today and take it from there. Nik Plug-ins are now Google Plug-ins BTW. There is a new anti camera shake that I saw that looks promising plus Adobe Raw 8.
stunsworth Posted June 18, 2013 Share #6 Posted June 18, 2013 Needless to say, this is a move to work around pirate-copying which has become endemic It also helps Adobe's cash flow. Rather than get a huge spike in revenue when a new version is released, they know more or less how much they'll be earning each month. I'd love to know what the take up is of the CC version. If it's not very high expect discounts before too long.
Guest WPalank Posted June 18, 2013 Share #7 Posted June 18, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Will be loading today and take it from there. Nik Plug-ins are now Google Plug-ins BTW. Nik does work on a MAC. Find the Uninstaller/Installer .dmg I always run an uninstall first. Then I run the install. As you get to the point where the installer TELLS YOU, err... I mean ASKS YOU where it will install Nik, there is no PS CC listed. Hit the plus sign on the bottom which takes you to Applications. Click on the PS CC Folder, whoa... it does not allow you to select CC. However, in the the CC Folder find the folder "Plug-Ins"> "Panel", there you can hit OK. Now you will find an Adobe Custom thing at the bottom of where the other Application Avatars such as CS6 and LR5 (for example), then run Install. Open CC and you will find the Nik Products are there and work fine.

I also believe that Adobe will head in a direction where you can select the specific Application you want, making it cheaper, rather than subscribing to all of them. For Investors, i believe Adobe reports earning tomorrow tuesday US. Analaysts are expecting a big loss, not because of the Creative Cloud thing, but because the software gets ripped off. it will be interesting to see where things are. I believe this will be the second quarter where the CC has been viable.
jaapv Posted June 18, 2013 Share #9 Posted June 18, 2013 I'm not sure about the last. In general the users who run pirated Adobe software would not dream of buying a legal copy if the could not get the stolen one, and even if they would they will probably do so at a next iteration anyway to avoid the bugs of the illegal stuff. In that model the losses are minimal and there is potential gain.

stunsworth Posted June 19, 2013 Share #11 Posted June 19, 2013 Agree with you on LR, and there's already strong rumouring that Adobe's reconsidering their pricing strategy on CC I think they'd get a lot more than two times the customers if they halved the price. I have to admit I'd be tempted if it was $10 a month - prob £10 in the UK. Especially if you ended up with a working copy (presumably updates would end) when the contract ended. Indina Posted June 19, 2013 Share #12 Posted June 19, 2013 Imo the flow of pirated Adobe software has contributed enormeously to Adobe's success in the market. EVERYBODY knows it. Those who earn money with it will most probably purchase a copy. .
LucisPictor Posted June 22, 2013 Share #13 Posted June 22, 2013 Just tried it: NIK/Google Filters work like a charm (Windows 7 64Bit). And Cloud users, you can install CC parallely to CS6. I did and it runs smoothly.

So one buys a 1 year contract at £120, cancel and walk away with a fully functioning copy of PS. CS6 was (is) what $600 something?? Doesn't make much sense from a business model perspective. Perhaps I misunderstood.???
Tina Manley Posted June 28, 2013 Share #15 Posted June 28, 2013 I'm paying $9.99 a month for CC Photoshop only. There is a special deal if you already own any Photoshop 3 through 6. All plug-ins work fine. Camera Shake seems similar to Focus Magic. Tina

All plug-ins work fine. Camera Shake seems similar to Focus Magic Hi Tina, unfortunately that's only for the first year, after that it goes up to the normal price. Now it's always possible they'll extend the offer, but who knows? I'll admit that if that price was permenant I'd be tempted to sign up, as it wouldn't be very different from the updgrades from version to version under the old system. The link I was refering to was speculating that you'd get the lower price for a three year contract, not a single year. Still probably unlikely, but as I said I'd be tempted to sign up. Guest WPalank Posted July 3, 2013 Share #18 Posted July 3, 2013 One of the advantages to the Creative Cloud is what happened this evening. A little Gizmo on my Menu Bar said there was an update PSCC "bug fixes". No, it didn't say exactly for what but one can probably cruise the Adobe Forums to find out. Would have been weeks to months, me thinks, if a typical Adobe Boxed Product. BTW, I downloaded it without question.
roguewave Posted July 3, 2013 Share #19 Posted July 3, 2013 I have been using the full suite & now CC for over a year. My wife is a graphic artist & water colorist. I can use every piece of Adobe's enormous tool chest to design & then setup the entire infrastructure to print her work. It is very cost effective and efficient. These guys are the real magicians. My hat's off to the scientists that make this magic real. Paying a small fee each month to support the needed research for future products is the right way to understand your investment in time, money, blood, sweat & tears. I just hope the Google doesn't buy Adobe.
sanyasi Posted July 3, 2013 Share #20 Posted July 3, 2013 I share your concern about Google. Although they made Nik software cheaper, I just don't feel like I am dealing with an entity that is focused on improving the product. Moreover, the new Nik website is terrible. Somewhere you can find all the videos, but the new simplified home page is sketchy.
