I dislike these things, no real reason and I am certainly bigger than them, but I still dislike them.

It's a Cicada, they make a wonderful chirping noise in summer/autumn.

My wife walked in with this one, and set it down on a vine nearby, so I grabbed the X-Vario, and slipped the Elpro VIb on as well.

This one is really fantastic. I tried to catch some shots of Cicada in Greece last year, but was not nearly as successful as you. One question though: What do you mean by "wonderful chirping noise"? The Cicada in Greece made a noise, that was extremely loud and disturbing. Maybe the green Cicada are built differently :)

James.

Perhaps "wonderful" isn't what everyone thinks, but they certainly are loud. The one thing that springs to mind when we hear the cicadas chirping at home is "long hot days", so I guess they are a summer sort of phenomenon.

I didn't really know they were as coloured as this until I processed these. I wanted more side-on, but had to be happy with what I got, only getting about 6 shots before it flew off.

Taken with the XV and Raynox 150. If macro wasn't at 70mm I couldn't have gotten this close to our panther chameleon, Savannah.

I like these more, "Praying Mantis", if we find them inside I carefully take them back out, and attach them to a plant or bush, not sure why I ike them and not the cicada?
Same X-Vario, and Elpro VIb.

Used the built in flash, dialed down a touch.

Slight crop from the out of camera JPEG.

No idea personally about the Raynox, I use the Elpro, partly snobbery mostly masochist. It requires "adapting" as the X-Vario is 43mm filter thread, and the Elpro is a Series thread (which roughly translates to 44mm).

I do know many of the X-Vario owners who frequent here have the Raynox, and speak highly of it.

The kind  office personnel are replacing the chamber pots in our flats with these . . . taken this evening while strolling with the dog. Anyway, we're flushed with excitement around here. Looks like a military parade, though one head's hat is not properly on . . .

Tree blossoms, taken yesterday morning.  We had a cold night (got down to 24 degrees Fahrenheit/-4 Celsius), so it was a little chilly being out first thing with the camera.
