Six years after joining this forum I finally jumped into a couple of conversations.

I've been shooting since 1983 and professionally for much of that time. I was a newspaper photographer and then an event photographer so spent most of my time with SLRs and then DSLRs. I've also done some fine art landscape work with medium format and 4x5 systems, and have owned two professional B&W darkrooms (one in my house, the other in the back of a one-hour lab).

After getting out of the event photography business I recently sold my Canon DSLR gear and bought a pristine Hasselblad 501 CM for my fine art work. I've been using a Sony RX-100 for everything else, but while it is a very capable pocket camera it has some quirks and limitations that make it unsuitable for serious work.

Which leads me to why I joined this forum six years ago when the M8 was released. I sold my EOS gear because I got tired of carrying 30 pounds of equipment with me, especially last year when I had to walk the length of Terminal 1 at the Copenhagen airport with all that gear in my backpack. The Leica M system has the potential to give me better results than the Canons I was using while being substantially smaller and lighter, albeit more expensive.

But there is more to it. My first serious camera was a Canon F1. My wife figured out how to use it halfway home (30 minutes) from the camera store. I like simple, intuitive controls, not menu diving. I want a camera that becomes an extension of my thought processes, not a camera that gets in the way of taking photos. I've read all about the idiosyncrasies of the M cameras, and they do make me pause, but after downloading some RAW files people posted from their M240 cameras I'm willing to work with the oddities to get that kind of image quality.

I'll need to pay off some bills first, but there is very likely a Leica M system in my near future. Is anyone looking for an experienced technical writer? :D
