LR 5

Recommended Posts

The cost of upgrading OS X isn't a problem. I still sometimes use Office 2004, and that requires Rosetta, which isn't in Lion or Mountain Lion. I'd also need upgrades for GarageBand and Logic Pro, which I also haven't been using much, but don't want to lose yet.

I actually have a copy of Appleworks 6 which still runs on my system. I never use it, never have - but it's amazing and amusing to see the old-style (pre-OS X) looking Apple program running just fine. That's using Rosetta and Classic Mode. Yes, this is just a novelty, I won't miss it.

So - without buying a new computer - upgrading to the latest LR 5 would cost me hundreds. OS X, MS Office, Logic Pro, GarageBand and, of course LR 5.

Of course, I'll probably do it one of these days.

Agreed. They're also more incremental and less dramatic than they used to be. For me, moving from SL to Lion did require updating the driver for my Epson 3800 printer, but other than that was problem-free. I think going from 10.6 to 10.8 would be a similar experience (though my old Mac Pro can't make that trip). YMMV of course, depending on what software you use, but you're probably going to have to make the move one of these days, and since you can no longer get OS X upgrades on disc, it's probably best to get them while you can.

If I'd stayed on 10.6 beyond the issue of Mountain Lion, my Mac Pro would never have made it's last leap forward, and I'd be stuck with Snow Leopard-compaptible software now and until I shell out for a new machine. Lion has given me an extra year or two before I need to do that

Can someone confirm that LR5 is the version that one gets when inputting the TAN number into the Leica website.

I have unused TAN from a MM bought early this year.

LR5 is what I downloaded from the Leica site, though I was downloading for an M240, not an MM
