only thing stopping from buying Leica X2....

I tried Fuji X100 to see if I could live with just 35mm focal length.

I grew up in days of film 35mm photography, first camera was Pentex K1000.

So I like the simple shutter & aperture dials on top of X2. Menu system of X2 straight forward.

Most likely would purchase optional optical viewfinder for X2.

But what is holding me back is that unlike the Fuji X100s the lense retracts into the body on X2 and I read a lot of complaints of dust bunnies on sensor of X1 & X2 (((((

Thought about Fuji XE-1 as since lenses removable you can clean sensor but no optical viewfinder.

Can wait year for ME but this means spending average $5450 + $2000 for 1 lense for what focal length X2 gives me.

Is there a way to prevent dust on sensor?

If keep in case when not used, will this prevent dust?

Dan, unless you intend to operate extensively in environmentally hostile conditions, I would not expect it to be a problem. I still use my X1, bought when first launched, and rarely get troubled by dust. The odd example is so easy to remove in Lightroom or other software. If you like everything else about the X2, go for it.

I don't think the problem is as common as you suppose.

I will see what happens on June 11th from Leica and if it is a slow zoom fixed lense X type body, I most likely order a X2 + optical viewfinder.

If I use spot focus on X2, is what I see there the optical viewfinder is what will be on photo?

I suggest the EVF. The Olympus version works fine- VF-2.

I've owned the Fuji X100s for about 2 months. It has several dust spots that reveal themselves at smaller apertures. But it's easily corrected in post (I use film cameras about 80% of the time so I'm used to it and it doesn't bother me.)

I've owned the X2 for about 8 months and it has no dust spots.

Neither camera is dust proofed nor weather proofed. But I do use a Kiwi tube with the X2 and that probably helps keep dust from getting sucked in by the retractable lens. It also allows the use of filters and hoods. And for me, I like the added ergonomics it provides (I can cradle the lens in my left hand as I would a M camera.) Plus I don't have to deal with that dismal X2 lens cap anymore (one can use generic pinch caps with the Kiwi if desired.)

As has been mentioned in the above post, I also highly recommend the EVF. It makes the camera a truly effective tool (plus it tilts which adds even more functionality.) Granted the EVF and the Kiwi makes the camera somewhat close to the size of a small M (but without the weight), however it's all very manageable and quick to use. Plus the EVF and tube can be quickly dismantled if necessary. I also have the Leica grip. And I use a small and flexible cloth strap. The camera is now perfect ergonomically for me.

Welcome Dan to the forum

I have an X1 and have used it extensively for 3 years in a variety of environments and as of today- no dust I havent done anything "special" to prevent it ( I do not use a case while shooting - but I keep it in a Lowe-pro case when not in use

I've had an X2 for a year, no dust. I also have a Fuji XE-1, great camera... The EVF is really good, I think higher resolution than the Leica. Both great cameras. X2 better AF and AE, XE-1 better IQ and low light performance and outstanding changeable lenses. JD

Kiwi sounds like a good option to reduce dust...but X2 and X100s both have the same problem, how do you eliminate dust without sending back to supplier?

a good shake or hard tap might dislodge it..but potentially anything else as well, perhaps? I have dust on my X2 sensor after about a year's good use & don't love the idea of cloning it out every time nor sending it back for such a small issue. You pose a good question, Mr Muller, however there seems to be no way for the average person to safely access the sensor for a quick cleaning. Why most people don't experience dust spots, probably..

As mentioned above, and just to affirm, I have had zero issues with dust in the X2. This may have to do with my using the inexpensive Kiwi tube to which I've attached a 49mm B&W filter. Added benefit: The tube and filter make the already-quiet X2 SILENT. I have taken many up-close candids during weddings and other, even more quiet, indoor gatherings where the subject has no idea I am taking photos giving me a natural, non-fake-smile look every time.
