Oh we've certainly 'got it' alright. We've got it, seen the camera, laughed at the specs, laughed at the "M" designation, compared it to several year old competition, giggled at the price....

....ALL before the "Big Reveal" on the 11th.

Nice job marketing.

They punted it as a 'smaller version of a great thing', when in fact it's a larger version of a not so great thing. They wanted people on the line, gasping on the 11th with excitement. they actually got people shaking their heads and walking away on the 7th at the latest. They used the M moniker which, surprise surprise attracted huge attention from the M market, which is probably not the market which will buy this camera. I can't see it as anything but idiotic.

Leica, if you're reading and are wondering why I'm so grumpy. FINALLY SEND ME MY FRIKKIN' M240 AND I MIGHT CALM DOWN! ;)

That brings up a question. I remember having read in one of these threads that Jaap a few weeks ago ordered an M from a larger dealer and he also indicated he will get the M very soon.

How come this is possible but others like you and me have to wait very long, in my case since September 19?

If I misunderstood the facts I apologize!

Not sure, but I want to support my leica dealer of the last 4 years. They're not 'small' per se.

If Leica are pushing a Boutique Only experience, then I'm outta here. Further away from image making and towards posing would tip me over the edge.

Thank you for the photos.

My wife wants to adopt Paula and sent me today to Leica Moscow. :)

Hi there. My wife wants to adopt Paula as well. (A worrying development, but not surprising).

She is I fine photographer, but I don't believe she's ever frequented a photo forum.

Nothing to do with Leica, but with an excellent relationship with my dealer.

Nothing to do with Leica, but with an excellent relationship with my dealer.

So you got to #1 on a list with a large dealer (after ordering only a few weeks ago) due to an excellent relationship? I would think that a large dealer would have had a long list already; if so, I'd be upset as another customer there.

And yet you still had your name on another list despite this relationship?

I'm confused as well.

Jaap, I hope that's not your response to my quite civil question, which resulted from the natural flow of discussion. Especially not after the thread where some thrashed David Farkas for a relatively minor action compared to a situation where a dealer might have violated the trust of customers waiting for a new, not used, M. If this didn't happen here, it would be nice to get confirmation.

As you well know, threads often involve various brief side turns, while still not being disrespectful to the OP. I sense that you don't have a simple explanation for my question, or the discussion would be limited and quickly brought back to the original topic, without taking on the role of Mod.

It is more complicated than that. These people had a habit of calling me when they got the first of a new Leica product in, like putting my name in automatically whenever they started a waiting list. Then they had a falling out with the importer (which resulted in getting my Monochrom in the nick of time by pulling strings despite being #1 on their list) so I went on the waiting list with another large shop where I buy regularly, who happened to have just two requests for a chrome one sometime in March. Then the difficulties were resolved for the first dealer and I happened to be in the shop at the time so I indicated my interest. There were only two people ahead of me for the M there irrespective of colour because they had more or less moved out of Leica and they got those two in last week. So I am next and cancelled the other order. They are expecting a new batch soon and the first is mine. In fact I fixed my order by getting and settling their payment request - most shops over here do not accept deposits- yesterday.

This was quite disrespectful to all of us who have been waiting for the camera for nine months now.

I apologise for making a remark that has caused offence - but it was made with 'tongue in cheek' hence the ;) .

However, it's a fact that it is possible to fast track a new or ex demo Leica if you go the extra mile to do so. I cancelled my M240 order last November after paying the deposit. I know that someone else would have benefitted from receiving that camera especially if he had the foresight to enquire with the dealer ... as happened when another forum member could not obtain an M240 from his regular dealer. Maybe he was allocated the camera I cancelled? My dealer actually told me that he knows his customers place orders with other dealers - and they cancel orders with him if those other dealers receive allocations prior to him. I cancelled my M240 order because my dental implant treatment estimate was higher than anticipated.

I hope your order is fulfilled soon.

Best wishes

Jaap and I have found a source of tasty new hats to eat. He's ordered an M and I've bought an MM. mngmngmng. :)

I think there is nothing wrong with changing ones mind even if one had pretty firm earlier opinions. I think flexibility to change is a better trait then sticking to ones guns irrespectively.

The post that was deleted was a personal attack on another Forum Member.

This is what Moderators are for. Let's not get into an "attack the Moderators for doing their job" session, please.

It is more complicated than that. .......

Jaap, I hope you appreciate the irony in the fact that I've been on the M waiting list almost since the camera was first announced, but due to being about 12th on the list, I shall probably still be waiting long after the novelty of your new M240 that you swore you would have no interest in has long worn off for you.

Its a funny old world isn't it?

Still, I can console myself with the fact that the weather's hot here at the moment and I shall soon be sitting outside with a cool refreshing ice cream. Care to join me? ;)

Nope. I'd say near M9 build quality. It's just smaller with less moving, mechanical parts. The on/off switch of the RX1 is actually much better than the M9's.

Toatlly agree with you, particularly regarding the ON/OFF switch.
