What about the M7?

Subjectively the world is flat, so yes they were right in a sense.

I guess my vision is poor, as I can't see to the 'edge'. ;)

Back to the M6 V's the M7. I find the one in my hand is definitely the better of the two. As for how many were sold, well I have two M6's and only one M7. Regardless, I prefer the M7, only because that is the one I am using today. :D

Strangely, the picture quality doesn't vary whichever one I use.;)

I bought my M7 in June along with the 50mm Summicron. This camera was both my first Leica and rangefinder camera. I joined this forum prior to the purchase in order to do some research on what is an expensive system. I did consider the MP, but I wanted the automatic mode for when I do not have time to expose manually.

The film forum never fails to amaze me when discussing the reliability of the M7, especially the members who have never owned one or the few who have been blighted by an earlier version. And, yes, there are always instances where a small number fail soon after purchase, like many things in life. The way some members continue to dismiss the M7 would suggest they have very little faith in the ability of Leica to design and build a reliable camera and I wonder why they continue to choose Leica, be it with a mechanical or electronic systems. I do not doubt that many of these responses are well intentioned, but clearly there are a number of die-hard Leicavists, who are never going to give the M7 a chance.

The M7 is a beautiful camera to hold and to operate. I cannot fault the M7 and wholeheartedly recommend it. The cost of the system pales into insignificance when taking and processing your own film.
