chris_livsey Posted June 2, 2013 Share #2 Posted June 2, 2013 Is there anything that can be done about the E02 shutter fault? Yes Leica will repair it, then again and again and again The cost of the repair is around the cost of a replacement in mint condition, with the same error risk Sorry. Edit to say that Leica now are not apparently offering the repair, even sorrier.

Torquinian Posted June 3, 2013 Author Share #4 Posted June 3, 2013 Sorry. Edit to say that Leica now are not apparently offering the repair, even sorrier. There are plenty of dealers out there still selling them for fancy prices. £200+
chris_livsey Posted June 3, 2013 Share #5 Posted June 3, 2013 There are plenty of dealers out there still selling them for fancy prices. £200+ Probably because they are becoming quite rare, most have an E02 shutter fault

Torquinian Posted August 19, 2013 Author Share #8 Posted August 19, 2013 I have 2 and both working perfectly 10 years later You are lucky then, I have had two and both have gone wrong in the same way. I heard on the "grapevine" that there was someone in China who could repair them, but I haven't found the address. I did come across someone in Japan who would take the lens out and mount it for use in M series cameras. I don't have an M so that was not appealing. earleygallery Posted August 19, 2013 Share #9 Posted August 19, 2013 Im sure I read that the E02 is caused by a ribbon type connector attached to lens cracking over time. Might be someone out there who could fix it?
Torquinian Posted August 19, 2013 Author Share #10 Posted August 19, 2013 I hope so.
rjans Posted August 19, 2013 Share #11 Posted August 19, 2013 Im sure I read that the E02 is caused by a ribbon type connector attached to lens cracking over time. Might be someone out there who could fix it? It does not happen all over time. I purchased a brand new Minilux somewhere in 2004. From the very first shot it displayed the E02 error. I think the design is not good or there were production variations. So, it was exchanged with another new one and it is still working. Best
rjans Posted August 19, 2013 Share #12 Posted August 19, 2013 I hope so. There is a movie on YouTube about dissambly of the Minilux and the E02 error is mentioned, but I have not seen the complete movie. Think it's a Russian movie. wda Posted August 19, 2013 Share #13 Posted August 19, 2013 Is a used CM a viable alternative? It was the successor to the Minlux with some improvements.
rjans Posted August 19, 2013 Share #14 Posted August 19, 2013 The CM is certainly a good improvement of the Minilux for different aspects. But, Leica can not repair a CM anymore and if you look at the prices for a CM... . It looks the CM, if you have bad luck, is an expensive one way camera (I do not find the correct word for it). I know the first badges of the CM suffered from battery drain, but were repaired by Leica. Later production did not have this fault.
