Nice composition, colours and details (the flag on the bridge). The reflections of the buildings in the water look unreal.

Christoph

Thanks, Christoph.  I used a hard ND grad filter and dropped it slanted against the strong light coming diagonally from the top right.  So the coverage over the water helped retain the detail and colors...

How long was the exposure and could the sun have been shining directly on another part of the bayonet connection in the first photograph? I note they were taken on different sides of the jetty.   Typically, the light leak occurs in direct sunlight.

After a disastrous session a few years ago losing a sunny afternoon's long-exposure photos to this problem I do use a black elastic hair scrunchie!  I'm still waiting for the expensive $80 black Leica-labelled scrunchie but preferably the $90 one without the Leica label.

The exposures were between 30 secs and 1 minute. The first image with the 'light leak' was taken with the sun just to the right of the pier at sunrise and the one without was taken with the sun behind the camera at dusk. This would make sense for the position of light leak. You could say that it was almost direct sunlight. I bought 5 scrunchies form Superdrug for £1 !

Best to check if Mark's right first...

But I'm wondering if your light leak is actually a problem with the Lee filter system. Perhaps a small gap between the holder and the filter? Or between the adaptor and the holder? Or adaptor and lens? Or lastly a strange flaw in the ND coating itself.

The best way to check would be a long exposure with a different ND filter. Or the same filter system on a different camera.

Oh, and if as Mark says direct sunlight *is* the problem, then use an umbrella to shade the camera.

Ric

Yes, I will have to experiment to determine the cause, I will try some ND circular filters rather than the Lee system with the sun infront and behind.

I would check this first - It has happened to me on both the Lee 75 and Lee 100 systems. In particular, make sure the fliter is well seated in the holder (and the ND filter is closest to the lens).

This has also happened to me, where a filter has not been seated correctly, so could possibly be the cause.

Thanks, David.

I like this and especially the clever use of the filter. I keep on being drawn back to the foreshore, which is due to the play on the light showing the detail in the stones/ cobbles. It also gives it a sense of movement.

What is the green tinge towards the bottom right - algae on a submerged rock or some sort of reflection from the bottom of the filter ?

the first is very good, Eoin.  Great moment and great eye to catch it.

really lovely colors on this one...

this is lovely, thanks for sharing it.

Could someone be kind enough to provide me with their Vuescan settings (I use a Plustek 8100 for 35mm and a V700 for MF) - it is becoming more and more painful seeing other members' crystal clear images against my blurry and grainy ones !!

I am also wondering whether I lose a lot of the sharpness when saving the image as a jpeg to post on this forum.

(It is no excuse but I am a technophobe, I hit rocks with a hammer for a living, and software just turns me off. I thought going down the film route would free me from the shackles of computer software)!

It depends to a degree on how you intend to process them afterwards, specifically if you use ColorPerfect or not.

This is a manual I found useful a long time ago after lots of trial and error, simply because it resulted in an OK enough scan. It may not be of much assistance if you already know Vuescan a bit so let us know what your main problems are and which films are causing difficulty and we'll find a solution.

Terrible framing and overall composition, but Ektar has amazing colours. Good job I didn't have Velvia 50 with me, or my monitor may have exploded...

David, I had a V700 Epson and  Silverfast (SF) also delivered with the scanner.

I do not use SF because I want something simple. Finally I use the Epson scanner software

that is fine, in my opinion

Why look complicated when you can do simple ? .

For my Nikon scan, I use the Nikon software and nothing else for the pictures posted here

The same remark for Plusteck.  Have you tried the Plusteck software ?

What are you blame to this software ?

Best
