gsgary Posted January 31, 2016 Share #10401 Posted January 31, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) GS 1200 Gary - best riders bike I ever had but also the most unreliable so I had to get rid of it as it was always letting me down. Mine though was a very early version and I think that they probably sorted them by now. ie Battery always flat - gearbox leaking oil - bevel box leaking oil - play in back wheel on bevel box bearings. Don't think that Ewan and Charlie would have got round the world on a 1200 GS!If you speak to 1200 riders that have had the 1100 most regret selling them, the 1100 had the bigger alternator like the 1150 adventure

gsgary Posted January 31, 2016 Share #10402 Posted January 31, 2016 (edited) Very nice bike pics! Best bike i have ever owned it will never be sold, it has never let us down on any of our big tours, here's a shot from our 6000 miles tour of Norway Sweden and Finland, me at the Arctic Circle https://gsgary.smugmug.com/Holidays/Norway-2005/i-Nh54CZ3/A Edited January 31, 2016 by gsgary
Sparkassenkunde Posted January 31, 2016 Share #10403 Posted January 31, 2016 Another from the Williamsburg bridge... Only a longer focal length than what I shared before (equivalent of a 90mm in 35mm terms) Fuji Velvia 100 The colors and overall idea are very good, but for me the picture would gain a lot if it were mirrored horizontally, as it would be better to "read" from left to right. Just my 2 pence...

This is from a roll of HP5+ shot at box speed. Leica M6 + Summarit-M 50mmf/2.5 Developed in EcoPro at 17c Printed on Ilford Pearl RC 4 paper using Ilford chems, then scanned into the computer using my old crappy Canon Scanner. The scan doesn't do it justice but i'm amazed at the amount of detail in a darkroom print. Even when they aren't in focus that will they are better looking than digital to me. I'm not sure what it is but I like it.This is a car that didn't get dug out of the snow storm we had last week. christoph_d Posted January 31, 2016 Share #10412 Posted January 31, 2016 My GS taken with Kodalith Ortho ( picked up 300 feet for £0.50 at our club auction) developed in Rodinal, M4P + 28mm Ultron I think this was my first test with Kodalith Gary, The pictures show quite some "glow". Does the film miss a anti halation layer? Rgds Christoph

Keith (M) Posted January 31, 2016 Share #10420 Posted January 31, 2016 Yes I know where you are coming from on this - the highlights are burnt out. The silver print of this retains more detail in the highlights that are smoother and less contrasty. I find this though with scanned TRI-X , that it does tend to blow the highlights. I don't know if this is down to my scanner (plustek 8200i) or in this case the negative is just a little bit thin, not so that you would notice much in a print but maybe a half stop more exposure would have helped. This has been my real issue with this scanner that especially with TRI-X it doesn't scan as well as I would like. I had a Nikon Coolscan that to be honest was in a different league and always produced really good scans that required virtually no tidying up. This is one of the reasons that I have now changed to Fomapan 400 as I find that it scans far better than TRI-X. This isn't a criticism of TRI-X film though as for prints I think it's still the very best. I do however like to give my images a bit of punch even with digital converted to B&W as for my type of photography I find that strong blacks and whites are more appropriate to the image. As I scan all my negs, I work on the basis of overexpose/underdevelop to achieve a more 'scannable' neg i.e flat & lacking contrast. A few tweaks in LR bring the negs to life. For Tri-X I generally rate it at ISO 200 and dev in 1:50 Rodinal for 9mins.
