When the colors are bright and vivid as here for these balloons, I still think to M8 and M9 , since I used them  and Kodak had an extraordinary sensor !
Get out a sensor that can rival the film is not easy. Too bad Leica stops the CCD.  The M240 CMOS * in my opinion not worth the M9 to terms of color, too "neutral" and Erwin Puts has reason to say  !
Besides, the Kodak film has taken all the parameters of this amazing CCD.  Anyway congratulations to Kodak.

Sorry to talk digital but I like to make some comments in looking back with my experience and I want to benefit those who are hesitant in their choice.

* I had the 240 in demonstration on loan for a few weeks.

Film shooters nightmare.

This roll would not spool correctly, kept getting jammed on the ball bearing.

I split the spool in the changing bag three times to release the film.

of course it's ruined these pictures with scratches..

Delta 3200 @3200. D76 1+1 20minutes at 20degrees.

Trev for your pb.

In my changing bag,I uncapped one of the roll cover with a opener for film

I get out the roller with the film , I unwinds the roller and after I rewind
still in the bag,
Then I put the end of the beginning of the film  in the Paterson turns
I never had a problem since.

Otherwise , what I like in the film is this "soft" and "natural" side with lines and edges of the face

and head of chidren ,  which makes it a very "artistic" picture. Something digital can not  with smoothing

pixels rendering edges too sharp .

Lovely are your grand-children Trev :)

Henry, you live in a beautiful place and that Ektar really looks great. I have to break down and try a roll or two myself.

Sure, they are scratched, but they are awesome pictures.

Print them 4 x 6 and put them in a shoebox. Keep printing photos of them as they age, and they will love you for it when they are older.

Thanks Robert.  Gotta say, if I didn't have my Leica I'd never have taken them. It's so stealthy. There's no way they'd have let me shoot them with an SLR.

By the way...THIS is what made me buy two Hewes Steel reels and a metal developing tank.

I was very afraid to try steel reels but the Hewes practically load themselves....really they do.

Now I only use them.

Also, with the steel reels, you can tell if everything is going well by slightly pushing back on the film as you roll..if it's going correctly, you can get some backwards play in the film, if not, then you just unroll a few turns and keep trying. It really beats the crap out of plastic in my opinion.

Henry,

Apart from the colour I particularly like the pronounced wide angle effect here - one almost thinks this has been taken with a 21 mm lens...

Thanks Christoph for your comment

Sure I think it's surely better with a 21 lens

I am in talks to get this lens but I do not like the addition of the viewfinder

I find annoying
