It seems Godfrey and Adam are saying the same thing. The RF mechanism is the same, and gets screwed up just the same when dropped from a specified height, but the screw up is more easily noticed on a digital body than on a film body. Only on a Leica forum would this be called a disagreement!

A rangefinder mechanism that has never been dropped, from any height, attached to any body (digital or analog) produced these rather sad images:

very nice, Chris. The last could be featured in Adams' book "The Negative" for the illustration of effective use of a green filter in portraiture.   It is better than some of the sample images contained in the book...

Another of the "years ago" scans.

My friend and I had a crack at a bit of gold-mining, when we weren't hunting.

I've also been struck by the silhouette bug. Here's one from Oslo Gardemoen in August last year. Then a photo from the same trip, taken on a windy and rainy day on Fløyen in Bergen. Both TTL 50/1.4A 5222 @800 in Diafine.
