Earlier this week I received all the way from Mexico the Pira Darkroom Helper I ordered just the week before - please see my short review here: https://darkroomhelper.pira.mx/product/darkroom-helper/#comment-1291. After considering the Ago processor and some other units I opted for the Pira and I'm so very glad I did. It is such a clever design and a pleasure to use. Anyway this is from the first roll I processed in it. Negatives came out perfectly with just the default settings. I've processed this for more contrast and punch because this is how I saw the picture being processed when I took it a few weeks ago:

I got the Pira back in February and it's such a brilliant machine!  Haven't got around to use it much yet, but just stocked up on some fresh developer and getting ready to get some work done. :)

Terrific, Phil!!!

I got the AGO  a few months ago. It works brilliantly also for both B&W and C-41. But I'm puzzled by something. Works great with the Paterson 2 (120) reel tanks. But with the 5 (120) reel tank, each of the reels leaves undeveloped the inner 3 or 4 photos. The folks at AGO have been terrific at making suggestions, but nothing's worked so far. I've done lots of trials to avoid it; to no avail, though apparently this isn't a problem for others. I'm not going into the tedious details here. Anyone interested, feel free to PM me. But with smaller Paterson tanks, it, too, is a game changer, especially with the boring C-41 development. Good times for film! (except for having my film confiscated at Boston's Logan airport...another sad story!)

She was getting herself photographed by a friend with a mobile phone camera in a park. I just happened to be passing and asked if she would like to be photographed with a 'real' camera. "Yes, I'd love that." Result below.

Thank you sincerely Ken. Sorry to hear about the issues with the AGO. Perhaps the good people there might consider swapping yours for a replacement unit - it sounds like there could be something specific to the one you have? Using a replacement unit would certainly confirm or disprove that. With the Pira I am now looking forward to processing more C41 and even ECN-2 if I feel brave enough.

I think we need to hear the story of your film being confiscated at Logan - that sounds bizarre!

Best regards.

Thanks for the advice, Phil. AGO folks have been terrific, and I don't think it's anything to do with their unit. If anything, it's something weird about this particular Paterson tank. I'll eventually figure it out.

I tried to be concise about Logan, and maybe overly so. Last time, Logan hand inspected my film and all was good. This time they also passed some sort of wand over it and announced that it tested positive (how??) and needed to go through the usual x-rays. As it was Cinestill 800T (long story), I told them it would fog. They didn't budge. So, I told them to keep the film, immediately went on-line and had B&H send me a bunch to arrive the day after I did. Lesson learned: traveling with film is unpredictable even domestically.

That's sad and frankly quite disturbing to hear and I'm really sorry that you endured that uncomfortable experience. I've always found US airports - including Logan - extremely accommodating with film. Hopefully your unpleasant experience was a one-off so it won't happen again. I once ended up chucking out 15 or so rolls of Tri-X because my supply got fogged after multiple x-rays in Mexico. Its a pretty hollow feeling.

Every time I see red flowers like these I think of the Doc.

A couple from the 90's, Fujichrome I think, and likely a Nikon F4.
