The bird tree

This is the top of a tree in my backyard that a variety of bird types sit and wait for me to feed them. Different ones come on different calls or signals, and they have calls to demand my attendance as well. :D

The tree is dead, but I don't cut it down because the birds love it. Also, I find it visually interesting.

M6 & 90mm Cron shooting Delta100.

First attempt at using Fujifilm UM-MA X-ray mammography film on a Mamiya C330 with a single exposure back. I'm pretty thrilled with the result. Mammography x-film, unlike standard x-ray film, has a single-sided emulsion layer (most x-ray films have emulsion on both sides) and this particular film has a protective layer on top of the emulsion (I see no scratches and I handled the film quite a lot to cut it to size) as well as an anti-halation backing layer. Like other x-ray films it is orthochromatic and is insensitive to red light, meaning it can be processed under a safe light - but will darken skin tones and other reddish things. Here are the specs:

Mamiya C330, Mamiya-Sekor 80mm 1:2.8, Fujifilm UM-MA (X-ray mammography film), D76H 1:7 21ºC, development timed by observation under safe light (15min?).

I'll try a 1:5 developer dilution next time. X-ray film develops rapidly but the 1:7 dilution tested my patience a bit! The processing was done in glass beakers and I used a stainless steel clip used to develop dental x-rays to handle the film.

Here are a couple of pics of the plate/film holder and the the single exposure back (with holder installed) mounted on the the C330. I also used a "paramender" for parallax correction (also in the 2nd photo). I've have only the one holder presently, but ordered two more.

No sense in being stupid if you can't show it.  Leaving leaders out when done with a roll of film does present a bit of a risk...that you'll load that film in your M3 at a later date.  Summicron DR 50, Kodak Gold.  But, hey, we love film!
