Your results are very encouraging to try out C41 development at home. I was unaware till now and as long as I can get a roll of film developed with small prints for less than 3€, didn't feel the need to try it out. But in the last months I was a bit disappointed, as my rolls came back with scratches more than once.

James develop  yourself and you will have no scratches and work well done because it's your roll

Very easy need just to keep 38°C during 3 min 15 sec in a plastic water basin with hot water is enough

Best

I wasn’t sure if this was going to work as everything online seemed to suggest that consumer grade C41 film will fail miserably if push processed. For the uninitiated pushing film is basically lying to the camera that the film is faster than its rated speed so that one can use faster shutter speeds in low light. The downside to doing this is the film will be underexposed and must be accounted for during film development. We do this by increasing the development time so that negatives develop with enough density for scanning or printing.

On my short weekend trip to Paris I packed some consumer grade Kodak gold 200 film. It was pretty grey and dark most of the weekend so I decided to throw caution to the wind and shoot the film at 2X the rated speed at ISO800 in my little Olympus XA. Once I came home I processed the film in Tetenal C41 developer and added 1 minute for every stop I underexposed for a total development time of 5 minutes and 15 seconds. Most of the frames developed with enough density except maybe a few. I also think pushed negatives are probably easier to scan and adjust for any color shift that might have occurred due to the push processing. Overall I was pleased with the results and will likely continue pushing this film.

Thanks for the information. That is a very encouraging result. I think there are differences between the consumer and professional grades of film, but I also think the consumer films, e.g. Kodak Ultramax and Gold, have a certain charm that the professional grades do not. I like your result.

I think I am going to expose my next roll of Kodak Gold or Ultramax in a range of box through +2, and then develop for the average. Should be interesting.

Best,

Wayne

Cold one today. Saw buddy, "G," putting out a new bale for cattle. Stopped to chat. Wound up offering some help. Wound up ankle deep in manure. Good day.

The more I look at this the more I appreciate the sublime colors.  Really well done.  You might, however, consider tilting the verticals just a tad as they don't look straight on my computer...

Becker - I am not totally sure I understand you but I am guessing that you are saying that when people are quoting posts they are repeating the image in the quoted post.  And that this REALLY bothers you and you want us to know that it bothers you and that your enjoyment of the thread is greatly diminished as a result of this and you want us all to delete the images in the posts that are quotes so that you can sift through the thread easier and have a more enjoyable experience in your viewing (as opposed to your posting and further enriching the thread)).   Did I get that right??

If yes, I will say that I pretty much always delete images in a post when I quote it WHEN I AM DOING IT FROM MY COMPUTER.    It is easy to do so provided one keeps it in mind.  However, doing this on a smartphone is EXTREMELY difficult, so much so that the effort to me/reward to you ratio is just not cost-beneficial!  I think the real audience for your comment is Andreas!!

By the way, haven't seen any posts from you in a while.  Have you given up photography?  That would be a shame!

Great catch! I'm wondering, did you get some fries after the shot or where the fries thrown at you? The look in her eyes could lead to either reaction, I suppose...

From me today a picture from a site that was the source of many cruelties during WWII, the Peenemünde Army Research Center, where the V2 missiles and other rockets have been developed. The wonderful light I saw during my visit there this October couldn't be in a bigger contrast to the deadly output from this location. Maybe it would be more appropriate to photograph such places on black&white film only?

very cool, James.  Would love to be there and see that in person.

Very nice.  The only question I would have is whether the scooter is in real life red or orange (I am guessing red).  I might consider then slightly tweak the WB accordingly...

The scooter was red but I think I am allowed a little artistic latitude to reinterpret 😀

absolutely!  To me it would look better cooled off so the natural fire-engine red shines through.  But you are the artist, for sure!
