So I wanted to share a few lab prints of the Ferrania P30 80 ISO B&W film that I had ordered many months ago.  Given my slight back log of scanning, it will likely be a month so before I get a chance to scan the film.

The lab that I use in NYC happens to make excellent lab prints both in B&W and color.  Although I do all of my own scanning, sometimes I will get this lab to make me prints and will try to emulate the contrast levels (for B&W) and color palette (for color).  I find that there is a huge amount of more detail in the highlights than the lab prints render (they are quite high contrast).

Here are some straight iPhone photos of a few of the prints.  They aren't of a level of quality deserving of this thread, although they do - I think - represent the rendition of the film, which may be of interest to Paul (as per Christoph's message from earlier today).

I will post the actual scans in due course.

There is a timelessness from these prints, Adam and a sense of worth that speaks its own language, beyond tradition and values and I'm leaning in to listen and learn.

I also shot a roll of the Adox Implosion ISO 100 color film over the past week.

As I indicated to Christoph, I was eager to see lab prints with this film, at least from my lab whose rendering I really like.   I was struck by how much grain there was and also, true to the description, how much the reds find a way to creep into the photo.

Here are a few samples...  full scans to come in due course...

I have to say, I think these some of your best. The color implosion lends a certain timelessness to the shots. Nice work. I did not guess it was Color Implosion until I read that it was. This film has a certain breadth of delivery that seems impossible to predict, but is always intriguing. Nice. The results between you, Christoph, and me are so different......I hope to see more.

I think I am going to slit a roll and run it through the Minox.

Best,

Wayne

Here's a picture from a 2002 trip my family and I made around Australia:

Have been busy printing and toning too.

I keep managing to nearly catch up on negs to print, then make more negatives... and so it goes.

All this 6x6 is challenging the Leica a lot.

Some random architecture shots before toning

Great series Adam! I must confess I've spent some time this year in NY visiting several times Williamsburg but I was somehow too shy to capture the orthodox Jews living there. It's a pity because there were a lot of interesting scenes, but I eventually decided to concentrate on other things. Maybe next time I get more self confidence.. and over 60 rolls of 120 film still need to be developed..

Same when I was there... I'm a big chicken when it comes to photo on the street.

Many thanks, Charles. :)  I only hope that I can achieve scans that are as nice as these lab prints :)

Thanks, Wayne.  Many of the color prints that I got back reminded me of your photographs in a scary way.  It is kinda of cool that New York can be made to look 40 years old just by using this film!

Btw, I got my hands on 21 rolls from a couple of different sources.  I'm thinking Halloween and then the snow blizzards..... :)

Welcome back, Henry!

Beautiful prints!  And yes, since getting my Rolleiflex, my poor M6 has taken a backseat. Only thing is I have yet to process any rolls to see if I'm doing OK (will soon when I get a block of time).  But it's still very fun to shoot. And t doesn't matter where I go, someone always seems to approach me and talk about the camera.

That Minox is doing you proud Wayne and looks like an interesting and convivial place. Takes me back to my childhood in a small town where one trading store was the meeting place for the town (and district)
