My technique is twofold, whichever works.

1. File the negs in transparent neg sleeves and lay them on the flatbed and scan direct, to make a contact sheet.

Sometimes, I get interference from the bags (still not sure why), so then I revert to 2.

2. I simply remove the film strips from the bag and lay them directly on the scanner. Scan as one, remembering to keep the strips in correct order when re-filing (for obvious reasons). This gives a better quality contact sheet, but involves more handling.

Currently I direct scan each frame seperately as a full scale image because my throughput of film is low. I set the scanning to go in the background while I do other work on the computer, so that the time taken is not an issue.

Erl,

So, I tinkered, and by simply un-checking the "Thumbnail" box bottom left, near "Help", I was able to scan the whole lot, in one hit, so a success.

Attached is the screen-grab showing what I'm up against though. Left side is the menu, and then the resulting whole lot scan, muddy looking.

On the right side is the result if I check the "Thumbnail" box, I get a page showing each of the negs as thumbnails, each with gorgeous colour and tones, perfect.

I can then simply select them all, and the software scans them, but all as single, separate images.

I'd like the same colours/tones as a sheet, not as singles, if possible.

Gary Epson scan V700>V850 is a good compromise between Nikon Coolscan,Minolta Dimage less expensive

and Imacon more expensive , for a nice image . Sincerily I don't like Beoon because it is too near digital camera

it's better you photograph directly with digital camera in this case.

Best

Thanks, Christoph.  Believe it or not, I also get an empty feeling after working on so many photos without people!  I don't either genre really defines me.  But the connection with the people is something very enjoyable that I always look forward to whenever I get the chance.

Thanks, Jean-Marc!

What a great place to have a wedding shoot!  The photographer's work is almost done for him/her!  Love the tri-x!

Thank you!

Adam , how can you do when you quote several posts in different pages in the same post ?

Thanks

Thanks, Phil.  I don't want to waste good photo sharing thread time with background info regarding this particular culture of ultra-orthodoxy and erroneously assume that folks are interested.   However, I do give really good photo tours of this neighborhood if you are ever in town :)

Just wanted to add my welcome back wishes to Henry. Doc - it's just not the same here without you.

Also, Adam - the genesis of a fascinating series that I think only an "insider" may be able to appreciate enough and gain access enough to explore photographically. Can't wait to see more from this year's events, and learn something of this obviously important ritual.

Fantastic, Mike, and congrats on the self development!

Henry - I was going to say that I can do it bc I am Superman.  But Chris stole my thunder and gave you the real reason :)
