Paul - Fantastic work and another excellent series.  You've captured some very interesting perspectives and the high contrast rendition executes on your vision quite well.   Congrats!

Mike - These photos are fantastic.  I love the soft tonality and texture.  And the development is very well done, too.

Very unique, Jean-Marc.  Thanks for sharing your experience and result!

Whatever the process - and process is of course critical - this has striking tonality. Great shot JM.

Thanks !!

Working with the colour balance off the Plustek last night. Nearly there.

M6, Kodak Colourplus 200 kr

I'd say so, particularly given the WB-challenged film! Very nice! Edited by A miller

Great series Adam! I must confess I've spent some time this year in NY visiting several times Williamsburg but I was somehow too shy to capture the orthodox Jews living there. It's a pity because there were a lot of interesting scenes, but I eventually decided to concentrate on other things. Maybe next time I get more self confidence.. and over 60 rolls of 120 film still need to be developed.. Edited by Tmx

I totally get what you are saying. Sometimes i go there and just dont feel up to it. I guess my chutzpah levels need to be sufficiently high (coffee helps :) ). Please do look me up the next tome you are in town.

Thank you Adam, don't tell anyone else but I accidentally exposed the TX400 at ISO 100 and had to pull the processing to compensate! :)

Hi Christoph - many thanks for your comments and thank you for the heads up on the Ferrania P30 I will give it a try when I can get some.

I think what it is with the Fomapan films is that they are "old school" and do seem to give a lovely (to me at least) good rich blacks and bold tones. I'm no expert on emulsions etc but I have heard that this is because they are more silver rich than modern films. I could of course be wrong here so others more knowledgeable might be able to add to it.

Just for the record I have always settled on D76 as my developer and when I used TRI-X almost exclusively I always diluted it 1+1 but of late I have moved away from TRI-X as it's become so expensive in 30m rolls that I always use, so I have now started using it stock with Fomapan films as it gives a bit finer grain used undiluted.

I have a few 30m rolls still in my freezer of the original Agfa APX 100 which is another favourite film of mine which I think again gives really nice punchy blacks and tones in the negative's when developed in D76. I have tried it in Rodinal but I find although nice and sharp it's a bit grainy for scanning but fine on enlarger prints.

Take care Paul Mac

Paul,

I understand that the Foma 200 is in fact a flat crystal film much like, say the Tmax series! Though I totally agree with you that the result is much more "old school" compared to those.

And as you say, the original APX100 is a dream to work with (in Perceptol for me). I'm working through my last stacks of roll on those. Foma 100 seems the most worthy successor to me; looking for films with dark character you could also look at Adox Silvermax - though for some reason I didn't like it that much when I tried it a few years ago. And if you can still get it, Polypan 50 is an interesting choice as well. Rather rough grain for a 50 ISO film (I always expose and develop at 100 anyway) and a thin scratch prone emulsion, but in part due to a lack of anti halation layer an interesting character nevertheless.

I also shot a roll of the Adox Implosion ISO 100 color film over the past week.

As I indicated to Christoph, I was eager to see lab prints with this film, at least from my lab whose rendering I really like.   I was struck by how much grain there was and also, true to the description, how much the reds find a way to creep into the photo.

...

Adam,

Today I noticed that of the two suppliers for my colour implosion film, one had stopped advertising it and the other had a mere 3 rolls left.

The latter had a notice stating that Adox stopped producing them  :(

So if you like what you see you may want to stock up while you can!
