Henry,

I much like your pictures of Rhiems Cathedral. There is an English poem called "The Jackdaw of Rhiems", about a bird that steals the ring of the Cardinal Archbishop and causes a great row. Mainly for kids, but still fun.

Probably the best photo thread on the Leica forum with nearly 2000 pages being testimony.

Out of interest, any of you guys using a Leica BEOON as part of the digitisation process? It's something I'd like to try myself.

I do pretty much exclusively now for 35mm with a Fuji XT-1 and Schneider Componon S enlarger lens. IVe just bought 40mm Rodenstock enlarger lens to use for 120. Comparing the 135 scans with my Minolta Multi Pro I'm comfortable in stating it nearly equals it but of course a lot faster. I can digitise 36 RAW shots at 45mb each in 10 minutes.

I'm hoping the 40mm (yet to arrive) will come good and equally reduce my 120 digitising times.

Most of these where With the Beoon setup

Thank you, that sounds good. I came across a thread on another forum and it seems a flat field enlarger lens is the way to go. I don't wish to 'pollute' Doc's picture thread, but just one quick question: Do you need an additional adaptor to mount the Componon, and if so what is it?

(Anyone want to sell me their BEOON?)

@Steve: Could you describe your workflow with the X-T1?

As can be seen the XT-1 is attached via the Fuji M mount adapter. Liveview is set. The lens is focused to infinity (as recommended) and the initial focusing of the negative is done wide open (f2.8) and the Fuji 100% magnification assists. Focusing is via the Beoon column raise or lower. (An enlarger lens has no helicoid, but even with a standard lens this is recommended). When satisfied at the height and obtaining maximum sharpness the column is locked. Stop down to F8. No further adjustment is needed for the roll of film being digitised. The exposure can be auto or adjusted to taste.

In short, stick the camera on top, mount a lens, focus and shoot.

Thanks Steve! I was not precisely enough: I meant the post process. Do I asume right you're shooting raw?

Firstly, I'm Ray.

Yes, I shoot RAW. Using a digital camera to shoot a negative is no different in workflow to shooting it any other way The only change is to convert the negative to positive via your software. Basically, you're taking a photograph and, with the above exception, your normal workflow is applied.

And this proves perfectly the accuracy of that quote. Very nice, Jean-Marc.
