Here is a portrait of my dad that I took as we wandered around my backyard. He has Alzheimers so we don't really talk about anything of much importance but it is nice to just be together :) Leica M6TTL and the amazing 75/1.4 on Ilford HP5

Fantastic portrait. Thanks for posting.

More than viable, and especially if you subscribe to the Doc Henry thought that in years to come your negatives will still be there while your digital files may not.

Very viable indeed Christopher, nice set.

Gary

Gary, right now what surprises me most is how I ditched my Minolta 700Si Dynax gear so quickly in favour of going digital in 2001. Just then it was like magic that we could produce an A4 print instantly from a Kodak 5 megapixel sensor. I guess we were duped by lower processing costs and the ability to print photos ourselves.

Now I too must admit that had I not installed a robust digital backup system I too would have lost many photos through corrupt digital storage. I actually have two external storage drives for my files. One has drive redundancy protection built in.

When I go on holidays though I take one with me.

This how far I go to protect them. They are also all on Flickr- over a 100k of them! It is true digital also made us lazy and snap happy. Why take one shot when 10 will ensure that maybe one is good!

It is a fact that we learn by experience. We will see how this all works out over the next 5 years I guess. Interesting times.

Kind regards

Christopher

Christopher, wonderful shots, especially the tele-Elmarit. Such depth to that one.

Thank you. But you should see the awful state of that poor lens. It is typical of the soft lens coatings that these Canadian lenses had and poor lens cleaning- it is scratched so badly you would think it was incapable of producing good results. I invested in the best lens hood for it that I could find and it paid off.

I think I bought it quite naively two years ago hardly knowing much about them for a couple of hundred pounds on eBay. I only realised after having it for a few days how badly the coating was damaged. Still I have it today and it consistently delivers the goods, amazingly! I just avoid pointing it directly at the sun. That prevents shutter curtain damage too :-)

Kind regards

Christopher

Very lovely portrait.  Perhaps the best thing is that he doesn't look disoriented.  I went through the exact same thing as you with my late Father until he hit the end of the road 7 yrs ago.  You've captured him so well.  Make the best of the time!

These are really lovely Christopher.  Some of the very best that I have seen from you.  Your daughter is adorable!!

My first summer with the Leica M6 TTL. I had 3 lenses then, the Summaron 35mm f3.5, Elmar 50mm f2.8 collapsible and the 90/2.8 tele-Elmarit. All shot on Kodak Portra 160 and processed by Müller film processing service in Fulda, Germany. The photos are from our first visit to Playmobil Zirndorf in 2015.

These were evidence to me that film could be a viable option to digital even when it mattered to record precious unforgettable memories.

Your subject is not looking to pleased to see you there, but you certainly captured his personality. Adam it's amazing what we can do when we get a bit of half decent light.

In the bright light of summer it's easy to select a nice crispy aperture. On most afternoons in Wales at ISO 400 we struggle with 125@f4 unless we get some sunshine. In Wales we get the backend of your weather after it's picked up water from the Atlantic and then it promptly dumps it on us for days.

Oh and I've upgraded my app too on the iPhone so I can post with twice the resolution. That may make a difference too. Of course Portra 160 is super smooth too. Just impractical here when it's grey 80% of the time.

Have a good evening I'm off to get some sleep.

Kind regards

Christopher
