A miller Posted December 25, 2016 Share #25106 Posted December 25, 2016 (edited) Hi Henry - Glad to hear from you. For you and others, I just wanted to clarify that I was never criticizing fellow members for merely viewing this thread and not being an active participant. That would be silly. I was, however, trying to express an opinion about the degree of the relative standing that someone may have in criticizing our moderator based on how active of a participant that person is. Hi All, thanks to some of you for your moral support. It's warm to see that we're not alone. Thanks to Gary, Ric for a thought for me.Thanks also to Adam regarding some who are only passing here and whom Adam calls "viewers" and who never post a lesser photo. Thanks to Ian for explaining that I am like him, demanding on the photo (details and color in the shadows) and that I always photograph in difficult conditions (against light, darkness) compared with digital Best Henry Dear Henry,Just to tell you how much I do appreciate your thread, your enthusiasm and your medical engagement in Vietnam!I also hope your sister is stable and on her way to recovery! It may be, that I not always agree with you about your distaste for digital, but that should not distroy all the other subjects we do agree about!I have spend most of my waking time working very hard editing material for a book. I have tried following the thread but did not comment. My sparetime belongs to my family and it has recently been little enough. I hope, you can understand...But if that makes me a viewer in the eyes of Adam, then so it be...Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!Xenia Edited December 25, 2016 by A miller

A miller Posted December 25, 2016 Share #25108 Posted December 25, 2016 I still can't seem to find a scanning workflow I consistently like the results of. Has anyone got any tips? I'm using an Epson V800, Epson scan, vuescan, colorperfect in an attempt to get the right results but I'm just never really satisfied. I can see so much more detail in the negatives but can never seem to capture it all. img008 by Russell Jones-Davies, on Flickr Russell - What setting do you use with Vuescan. Based on your example, there doesn't seem to be anything obviously wrong with your workflow. I find that film scans need an extra bit of sharpening and even NR to get them in tip top shape. Perhaps you can share another example of a photo with more midtones to demonstrate your dissatisfaction?

Michael Hiles Posted December 25, 2016 Share #25114 Posted December 25, 2016 Whenever we visit a church or cathedral and my daughter sees an open bible or prayer book, she likes to read from it or provide an impromptu sermon. This is in the north transept of Salisbury Cathedral, one of the finest ecclesiastical buildings in all of Christendom. Salisbury Cathedral in indeed wonderful. About 18 months ago we were given a private tour by a volunteer guide who by happenstance and great luck was not busy when we showed up. It helped that we are familiar with Anglican history and usage. Equally special was a chance to see the Cathedral's copy of Magna Carta (by far the best preserved copy of four existing originals).
